    Switch and Stitch

    Join us for a pre-loved clothing swap and mending session. Bring the clothes you have buried at the back of your wardrobe, pass them on to a new owner and find something for yourself, too. The focus of the event is sustainable fashion, so we will have drop-in mending sessions facilitated by lovely people who can share their skills and tips. Guidelines For the Stitch: This is your chance to fix the clothes you want to keep, but need a little extra love & attention. Friendly helpers will be on hand to guide you - whether it’s sewing up hems, buttons or doing some visible mending. Basic resources will be provided but if you might need anything else (buttons, zips etc), please bring them! For the Switch: Please bring as many items as you like - we welcome clothing of all genders and sizes. You will then receive a token for each piece of clothing you have contributed. From 1:30pm, you will have the opportunity to choose something new - 1 token for each new item.     Brockwell Park Community Greenhouses are hosting an art exhibition of nature inspired artwork, from local artists, displayed all around our beautiful venue. Come and immerse yourself in evening of music and art, delicious food and drinks in the surroundings of our enchanting gardens!  Live music from 9pm – artists to be announced shortly Delicious plant based food from Roobarbs will be served throughout the evening – come hungry!     Art in the Park at Brixton Windmill

    Free Art Workshops for Adults & Children Sunday 11 August, 1pm to 5pm  Get inspired by the natural beauty of Windmill Gardens at our annual Art in the Park event at Brixton Windmill. This year’s theme is “growth”. We have a range of free drop in workshops on offer throughout the afternoon suitable for adults, children and families working together. Workshops include pop up cards, t-shirt painting, "drawing diversity", junk plants and natural cord jewellery making. Most activities are free, but donations for materials are always welcome. It is also possible to take a guided tour of Brixton Windmill during the afternoon, 1-5pm – last tour at 4.40pm. Book a tour here.     Flamenco Classes for Children

    Flamenco fun for the kids! Regular flamenco dance classes for children aged 4 upwards in Brixton House south London. Girls and boys welcome!
    Classes are held in Brixton House, very close to Brixton tube station on Sundays 11.30 am - 12.20 pm. £12 drop in or £10 per class if paid by the term.
    Learning flamenco allows children to develop a strong sense of rhythm and musicality, excellent physical coordination and an appreciation of the rich cultural heritage of this art form from Andalucia.

    WHAT TO WEAR:
    Children should wear clothes they are comfortable moving in. There is no need to buy flamenco shoes for your child's first flamenco classes but we will be doing some stamping of our feet so please wear comfortable sturdy shoes that will not slip off your feet too easily. Ideally they should wear a closed toe shoe with a small sturdy heel. For those wishing to use a skirt please wear one with enough volume and length that allows it to be picked up and moved around comfortably.

     Ceramic Art and Life Join us for an evening with Julian Stair OBE, one of UK’s leading potters, who will talk about the ideas that have shaped his practice over five decades - works that range from the everyday to rites of passage. Julian is a leading historian of English studio ceramics. He completed a PhD at the RCA researching the critical origins of English studio pottery and has written extensively throughout his career. He has received awards in recognition of his contribution to contemporary practice including an OBE in 2022 for his services to ceramics. Yale University Press and the Sainsbury Centre published a monograph on his work ‘Memory Material Ceramics’ in 2024. He has exhibited internationally since 1982, where he has worked in over 30 public collections including at the V&A, British Museum, American Museum of Art & Design, Mashiko Museum of Ceramic Art and many more.
