Windmill Gardens gardening volunteer group

Brixton Windmill 100 Blenheim Gardens, London

Our group of gardening volunteers meet on the first Saturday of every month from 12.30 to 2.30pm to plant bulbs, flowers, fruit bushes, hops, and tend the herb bed. Our aim is to keep the park looking well cared for, colourful, and a welcoming space to visitors and nature alike. Tools, gardening gloves, drinking water and light refreshments are provided. If you’d like to help out, please email info@brixtonwindmill.org Windmill Gardens is a well-used park that gained a Green Flag Community Award in 2015. The award has been retained each year since then. This is in large part due to the dedicated work of gardening volunteers from Friends of Windmill Gardens. The Friends want to provide more recreation facilities for young people. Working with Lambeth Council we hope to upgrade the children’s playground and add more facilities for teenagers. Together, we have developed an event format for the collective expression of grief, providing a supportive and safe space for conversation, remembrance and celebration of lives lost during the pandemic. AIMS • to give voice to expressions of loss curtailed by social distancing regulations • to provide space for communal creative and healing experiences • to combat cases of complicated grief and social isolation • to recreate the rituals of bereavement in an informal and safe setting PILOT We are currently in the pilot phase of the project and are hosting our first event on Sunday 8 August. Through a combination of workshops and peer-to-peer support, participants will be invited to share their experiences in a safe and supportive environment, culminating in an informal ceremony with performances by...
