6-week yoga course for complete beginners at Yoga Point Brixton

This 6-week course runs from 26 February 2025 – 2 April 2025 on Wednesday evenings from 8pm-9pm. This course is lead by Vaccasin and is for people who have never done yoga and would like to learn. Or for people who have done a little yoga/ did yoga some time ago and would like to start at the beginning. If you have any injuries or medical issues that you are working with and are unsure about whether yoga is appropriate please write in to info@yogapoint.co.uk Yoga can strengthen and stretch the body, improve balance and focus and help reduce stress and anxiety.

Bell House Pottery: Throwing on the wheel for teenagers – a 4-week beginners course for ages 13-17

Throwing on the Wheel, 4-week course, Beginners, 13–17-year-olds Cost £160 for four 2-hour sessions. £80 concessions Available dates: Course is on four consecutive Saturday mornings. Next course is 8-29 March 2025 Booking website: https://buytickets.at/bellhousepotterystudio/1316047 During the weekly 2-hour sessions: You will have a first go at centering clay on the wheel, throwing cylinders and bowls. You will also learn how to finish your pots and how to decorate with slips. You can keep up to six pots which will be fired and glazed for you at the end of this course. The cost of all materials and firings are included in your course fee. Please note: This course is for teenagers only, aged 13-17. Throwing on the wheel can be a messy business and aprons will not be provided. Please wear appropriate clothing. About the teacher: Alice Wakefield Alice is the most recent recruit to the Bell House Pottery team. She joined us in September 2024. Join WWF's global 'lights-out' under the magnificent backlit East Window of St Giles Church, designed by famous South London resident and pioneering environmental campaigner, John Ruskin. Share Ruskin’s love of nature and the Alps through a gorgeous programme of music by Mahler and Richard Strauss, who also took inspiration from the mountains. The concert will be interwoven with insights from Ruskin's works given by Andrew Hill, Financial Times journalist and author of 'Ruskinland: How John Ruskin Shapes Our World'. Throwing on a batt: A one-day intermediate level weekend workshop led by Birgit Pohl Learn how to attach a wooden batt to the wheel head. Practice a variety of flatware shapes on the batt. Immerse yourself in throwing on the wheel for a full day! You can choose up to three pots which will be trimmed, glazed and fired for you. Please note  This intermediate level course will not cover centring or pulling up. Participants must be able to centre 1kg of clay before signing up to the course. Portrait modelling in clay – a one day ceramic workshop with Ben Swift at the Bell House Pottery, Dulwich

A full day weekend workshop with skilled ceramic sculptor, Ben Swift. During the one day workshop you will, with guidance and demonstrations from your tutor: Model a small self/portrait head in Terracotta. Learn about proportions of the head. Build up a basic head form on a simple armature support. Use modelling tools to construct the features. Create surface details: hair, skin etc. Finish and prepare the piece for the kiln.! Teacher is Ben Swift  Ben is a ceramic artist and ceramics teacher based in Dulwich. His work explores both figurative, geometric and organic subjects with emphasis on process: construction, throwing, casting and fabrication, thus creating rhythms, textures and forms. These are expressed through the treatment of a variety of media. Most often he employs ceramics but he also combines constructed metals and found objects. Recent work has begun to compose disparate elements as assemblages.
