 Ceramic Art and Life Join us for an evening with Julian Stair OBE, one of UK’s leading potters, who will talk about the ideas that have shaped his practice over five decades - works that range from the everyday to rites of passage. Julian is a leading historian of English studio ceramics. He completed a PhD at the RCA researching the critical origins of English studio pottery and has written extensively throughout his career. He has received awards in recognition of his contribution to contemporary practice including an OBE in 2022 for his services to ceramics. Yale University Press and the Sainsbury Centre published a monograph on his work ‘Memory Material Ceramics’ in 2024. He has exhibited internationally since 1982, where he has worked in over 30 public collections including at the V&A, British Museum, American Museum of Art & Design, Mashiko Museum of Ceramic Art and many more. Springtime Embroidery Workshop: Stitching Folklore & Nature

Come stitch your own piece of springtime magic! Relax on a Sunday afternoon, learn simple sewing techniques and connect with the healing plants and rich botanical folklore of Britain! In this relaxing and creative workshop, we will explore the symbolism and historical uses of four British springtime plants: daffodil, snake’s head fritillary, bluebell, and yarrow. These plants are celebrated for their connections to healing and protection, perfect for the changing of the seasons! Using simple embroidery techniques, participants will stitch a spring meadow illustration, learning a variety of embroidery stitches such as backstitch, whipped stitch and French knots. The design will be framed within the hoop, allowing you to take home a beautiful, nature-inspired ornament that can be displayed as a decorative piece. This workshop is suitable for beginners and those with some embroidery experience. All materials will be provided. BOOK HERE

Willow Weaving Workshop: Make Your Own Hanging Basket

Come along and enjoy a day of creativity, learning the traditional craft of willow weaving! In this 5 hour workshop you will master weaving techniques and make your very own hanging basket which you can take home at the end of the day.  Willow weaving is a traditional method for making all kinds of beautiful baskets and containers using natural materials. There are many varieties of willow and many different coloured stems or ‘rods’. The different coloured rods add an extra layer of decoration to your willow weaving allowing you to weave different coloured patterns into your baskets. In this workshop you will learn the traditional method of willow basket weaving but with a twist. The basket will have a pointy base to transform it into a beautiful hanging basket. Hanging baskets can make an attractive addition to any garden, entranceway, front door or courtyard space, and can be planted up with edible or ornamental plants including our trailing bush tomatoes, Tumbling tom yellow and Tumbling tom red which will be on sale at our shop. Portrait modelling in clay – a one day ceramic workshop with Ben Swift at the Bell House Pottery, Dulwich

A full day weekend workshop with skilled ceramic sculptor, Ben Swift. During the one day workshop you will, with guidance and demonstrations from your tutor: Model a small self/portrait head in Terracotta. Learn about proportions of the head. Build up a basic head form on a simple armature support. Use modelling tools to construct the features. Create surface details: hair, skin etc. Finish and prepare the piece for the kiln.! Teacher is Ben Swift  Ben is a ceramic artist and ceramics teacher based in Dulwich. His work explores both figurative, geometric and organic subjects with emphasis on process: construction, throwing, casting and fabrication, thus creating rhythms, textures and forms. These are expressed through the treatment of a variety of media. Most often he employs ceramics but he also combines constructed metals and found objects. Recent work has begun to compose disparate elements as assemblages. Join us for a free family Halloween event in Windmill Gardens: Lantern carving workshop – make a traditional pumpkin lantern. £3 per pumpkin.  Please note children must be aged at least 7 and must be accompanied by an adult. Brockfest Photo Gallery

Temporary photo exhibition about Brockfest - a free community youth music festival held at Brockwell Hall in September featuring 121 artists from a local youth open mic. All photos by student live music photographers. Opening day only (10-5pm, 30th Nov) features elements of the bespoke speaker array used in the festival. Live performances from singer songwriters (and Brockfest performers) Eva Witney and Betty Ablett on piano in the exhibition room. The 5 easel displays built especially for the photo exhibition will be donated to The Hall afterwards, as a platform for other community groups to tell their stories.
