Join a small group for a unique full day experience making flour and sourdough bread with our Brixton Windmill millers and Harvey from Camberwell's Toad Bakery. Welcome Spring in with a session of storytelling, authentic gypsy tunes and gypsy influenced classical pieces played and curated by Slovakian Gypsy violinist Marion Bango. They will also be playing music influenced by the nature and natural surroundings of Slovakia and you will learn and sing a traditional gypsy song at the end of the concert. This 6-week course runs from 26 February 2025 – 2 April 2025 on Wednesday evenings from 8pm-9pm. This course is lead by Vaccasin and is for people who have never done yoga and would like to learn. Or for people who have done a little yoga/ did yoga some time ago and would like to start at the beginning. Throwing on the wheel can be a messy business and aprons will not be provided. Please wear appropriate clothing. Ceramic Art and Life Join us for an evening with Julian Stair OBE, one of UK’s leading potters, who will talk about the ideas that have shaped his practice over five decades - works that range from the everyday to rites of passage. Julian is a leading historian of English studio ceramics. He completed a PhD at the RCA researching the critical origins of English studio pottery and has written extensively throughout his career. He has received awards in recognition of his contribution to contemporary practice including an OBE in 2022 for his services to ceramics. Yale University Press and the Sainsbury Centre published a monograph on his work ‘Memory Material Ceramics’ in 2024. He has exhibited internationally since 1982, where he has worked in over 30 public collections including at the V&A, British Museum, American Museum of Art & Design, Mashiko Museum of Ceramic Art and many more. Share Ruskin’s love of nature and the Alps through a gorgeous programme of music by Mahler and Richard Strauss, who also took inspiration from the mountains. Improve your swimming technique and meet other Brockwell Swimmers at our Monday swim sessions, 8:30pm to 9:30pm at the indoor Alleyns School pool, Townley Rd, Dulwich SE22 8SU. All evenings are led by two qualified instructors teaching a range of skills from inter-mediate to masters. Adults 18+ welcome. Sessions are sold in blocks of six at £12 each. Come stitch your own piece of springtime magic! Relax on a Sunday afternoon, learn simple sewing techniques and connect with the healing plants and rich botanical folklore of Britain! In this relaxing and creative workshop, we will explore the symbolism and historical uses of four British springtime plants: daffodil, snake’s head fritillary, bluebell, and yarrow. These plants are celebrated for their connections to healing and protection, perfect for the changing of the seasons! Using simple embroidery techniques, participants will stitch a spring meadow illustration, learning a variety of embroidery stitches such as backstitch, whipped stitch and French knots. The design will be framed within the hoop, allowing you to take home a beautiful, nature-inspired ornament that can be displayed as a decorative piece.
