Following the success of our first six week Junior Barracudas course at Alleyns School, Brockwell Swimmers will be continuing these sessions at 7:30pm to 8:30pm on Mondays from 13th January onwards. This 10-week course for junior members aged 8 to 13 will cost £250 per swimmer and will cover: • How to race over 25m and 50m correctly for a school gala. • Focus on correcting the stroke to maximise speed. • When to breath when racing. • How to do the correct relay hand overs. • How to maximise the potential of the dive. • How to finish quickly. • Correct turns for each stroke. Life Course what is it? The Life Course is a series of evenings where we look at the question: What does our best life look and feel like? If you’ve ever thought is there more to life than this? If you’re curious about life and spirituality or are looking for fellow freethinkers, the Life Course is for you. how does it work? Each week begins with a meal before hearing a short talk. The talk helps to spark ideas and conversations that follow in smaller discussion groups of like-minded people. It’s non-judgmental. It’s not about forcing you into some set of beliefs. We don’t want your money. Everyone is welcome. when and where? This is an all welcome Yin class where you have an opportunity to stop and be still. Yin yoga is suitable for all levels of yoga practitioner, it is a slow form where lying and seated poses are held for a longer period of time (using supports) allowing the body to move gently into deeper stretches. We can let go of any striving and connect to our inner experience, creating time for silent reflection.

Sunday 23 February, 10.30am to 4.30pm Ever wondered how flour is still produced by Brixton Windmill? Join a small group for a unique full day experience making flour and sourdough bread with our Brixton Windmill millers and Harvey from Camberwell's Toad Bakery. Make your own traditional stone ground flour in London’s last working mill and use it to make your own loaf of bread. Lunch is included. Welcome Spring in with a session of storytelling, authentic gypsy tunes and gypsy influenced classical pieces played and curated by Slovakian Gypsy violinist Marion Bango. They will also be playing music influenced by the nature and natural surroundings of Slovakia and you will learn and sing a traditional gypsy song at the end of the concert. It’s perfect for anyone new to Pilates, returning after a break, or wanting to refresh the basics. Taught by a certified Pilates teacher and registered osteopath with extensive rehabilitation experience, the small class sizes ensure personalised guidance throughout. You’ll work on improving joint mobility, building strength, and enhancing stability—providing a solid foundation for more advanced exercises. Please note: You’ll need to be able to get on and off the mat independently.

Or perhaps you have a passion for local history and bringing stories to life? We’re hosting a Volunteering Open Day on Sunday 2 March. There will also be some mini tours of the mill plus hot drinks and baked treats made with our flour. We are currently looking for more tour guides, millers, gardeners and cafe helpers. We welcome young people and can help with volunteering programmes such as the Duke of Edinburgh Award scheme.
Throwing on the Wheel, 4-week course, Beginners, 13–17-year-olds Cost £160 for four 2-hour sessions. £80 concessions Available dates: Course is on four consecutive Saturday mornings. You will also learn how to finish your pots and how to decorate with slips. You can keep up to six pots which will be fired and glazed for you at the end of this course. The cost of all materials and firings are included in your course fee. Please note: This course is for teenagers only, aged 13-17. Throwing on the wheel can be a messy business and aprons will not be provided. Please wear appropriate clothing. About the teacher: Alice Wakefield Alice is the most recent recruit to the Bell House Pottery team. She joined us in September 2024. Alice has experience teaching students in both throwing and hand-building in potteries, community centres and schools. Ceramic Art and Life Join us for an evening with Julian Stair OBE, one of UK’s leading potters, who will talk about the ideas that have shaped his practice over five decades - works that range from the everyday to rites of passage. Julian is a leading historian of English studio ceramics. He completed a PhD at the RCA researching the critical origins of English studio pottery and has written extensively throughout his career. He has received awards in recognition of his contribution to contemporary practice including an OBE in 2022 for his services to ceramics. Yale University Press and the Sainsbury Centre published a monograph on his work ‘Memory Material Ceramics’ in 2024. He has exhibited internationally since 1982, where he has worked in over 30 public collections including at the V&A, British Museum, American Museum of Art & Design, Mashiko Museum of Ceramic Art and many more.
