The leafy street of Josephine Avenue is set to transform into an open-air gallery this summer as Urban Art 2024 returns on the 13th and 14th of July. Celebrating its 22nd year, this much-anticipated event will showcase a diverse array of artistic talent, featuring works from painters, photographers, printmakers, and mixed media artists. Open 10am to 6pm both days. Free entry.
With over a 120 artists hanging their work and thousands of pieces for sale, Urban Art 2024 promises to be an unforgettable weekend filled with creativity, community spirit, and charitable giving. Visitors will have the unique opportunity to explore and purchase original artworks displayed along the railings of Josephine Avenue.

Our Garden In The City: Sunday Morning Creative Writing

Brockwell Park Community Greenhouses Brockwell Park, Herne Hill

Join local writer, poet and experienced creative writing tutor, Tracey Hammett, to explore your writing, generate new ideas, find inspiration and meet new people in this two hour Creative Writing workshop for adults. During the session we will be using the Community Greenhouses as a backdrop to explore connections between people, landscapes and stories – real and imagined. There will be short exercises and prompts to help you generate ideas, keep your writing flowing and add some new tools to your writer’s tool kit. There’ll be opportunities to share your writing too! The emphasis is on creativity, and fun in a beautiful environment. Book here

JOM Junior Open Mic

Welcome to the largest open mic in the UK and it’s in Herne Hill! This session is one of two free open mics for young people running on the same day totalling 70 grassroots youth artists. It’s fully booked for acts but still free to come and watch. All U18s must be accompanied by an adult to get in. JOM is an award winning community group that organises free youth music events.

Family Sports & Games Day in Windmill Gardens Sunday 14 July, 1pm to 5pm www.brixtonwindmill.org  Join us in Windmill Gardens for a free family friendly afternoon of sports, games and activities.  We’ll offer an inclusive range of activities for all including football,  volley ball, fun races, games, Tai Chi and Zumba.  It’s a chance for everyone to get active and try something new in the leafy surroundings of Windmill Gardens park.
