Herne Hill Heritage Trail walk - Central, led by Robert Holden. Meet at Herne Hill Velodrome, Entrance in Burbage Road SE21 7AF, 2:30pm. "We begin at the Burbage Road entrance of the Herne Hill Velodrome, the oldest extant cycle track in the UK. It was used for the 1948 Olympics, and today is still a hive of activity. We shall pass a sports field that has its own war memorial, a grand viaduct, a house that has had three distinguished residents but has only two plaques, and a hidden folly. Herne Hill Heritage Trail walk - South, led by Robert Holden. Meet at All Saints’ Church, Entrance in Lovelace Road SE21 8JY, 10am. "We start at the Lovelace Road entrance of All Saints’ Church, the only Grade 1 listed building in our area. We stroll down Rosendale Road, passing four model houses possibly designed for the Ideal Home Exhibition in the mid-1920s, two schools, a former dairy, and a Grade 2 listed railway bridge (the central arch of which is an ellipsis). Sunday 29 September, 1pm to 5pm www.brixtonwindmill.org Our free family festival celebrates the annual wheat harvest and the histories and crafts of milling and artisan bread making with craft workshops, live music, food, Morris dancing, and beer from Brixton Brewery. Workshops for children include baking and traditional corn dolly making. Our shop and cafe will be open together with milling demonstrations inside the windmill. The day includes: Learn about wheat! Learn all about the growing, harvesting, and milling of the wheat, grain and flour that makes your favourite bakes such as cakes, biscuits, breads and more! With information and practical displays throughout the afternoon from expert millers, and growers. You can even have a go at milling yourself with our hand querns! Our millers will also be demonstrating milling inside the windmill – you’ll be able to sign up on the day. Shop and cafe Open throughout the afternoon selling uniquely designed Brixton Windmill products and freshly baked homemade cakes made with our very own flour. Explore your creative neighbourhood. On the first weekend of October artists and crafts people across the borough of Lambeth will be opening their studio and work spaces to the public. Doors will be open from 10am to 6pm, 5th and 6th October and admission will be free.Dots will be added to our map as artists and makers sign up to this year's event. Lambeth Open showcases the fantastic range of creative talent tucked away in our borough and is a great way to discover the various art spaces too often hidden in your neighbourhoods. Visitors will be able to see inside the artist’s studios and exhibition spaces for a unique personal insight into the individual technical processes. During the month of October the Brockwell Swimmers club are offering a sample 'Tenner Taster' at nearby Alleyns School indoor pool. This is your chance to sample our popular weekly coached sessions in this modern, six lane, 25 metre pool. As well as expert tution and advice from our professional coach, this is a chance to meet other fellow swimmers keen to improve their swimming technique. Perfect for new members, this relaxed swim event is a great way to experience our community and get a feel for our club. The price also includes a temporary membership for the evening (particiaption is restricted to one session per month).. All abilities welcome so dive in and join the fun!

Capping our first Saturday, in the evening we're delighted to have stellar Big Band from South London Jazz Orchestra (Event #4) in St Faith's Church, North Dulwich from 7:30-9:30pm. SLJO is based in Brixton and play over thirty gigs a year all around London and further afield. The Orchestra was set up in 2000 and operates as part of South London Community Music, alongside concert band South London Symphonic Winds and choir London Sings! You can find SLJO at the London Marathon and up on the bandstands in three Royal Parks – Hyde Park, Regents Park, Greenwich Park – as well as their local favourite Ruskin Park. They love a good party! SLJO regularly plays the Edinburgh Fringe Festival, Brighton Fringe Festival, and Wandsworth Arts Fringe. They’ve entertained both beer festivals and neighbourhood fetes.
