Much Ado About Nothing in Windmill Gardens

Gossip, wit and jealousy abound in this merry romp. Can everything be resolved by a bungling neighbourhood watch and one final piece of trickery? Six actors and Open Bar Theatre’s trademark two-storey set will take over Windmill Gardens for this hilarious, fun Shakespearean classic this summer, in full Elizabethan costume and with original songs by their resident composer that you’ll leave singing all summer long, this is Shakespeare for everyone to enjoy, from the aficionado to those who “don’t do Shakespeare”. Bring a picnic or grab a drink from our licenced cafe at Brixton Windmill Centre and enjoy an evening of Shakespeare that is plenty of fun for all! Run time The performance lasts approximately 2 hours including a 20 minute interval. Assistance dogs and well behaved dogs on leads are welcome.

Milkwood Summer Programme

Come join us for a week of fun activities this August. Running from the 12th - 16th we have sports, performing arts and crafts from 9-5 daily. Lunch is provided and the programme is completely free. Flamenco Classes for Children

Flamenco fun for the kids! Regular flamenco dance classes for children aged 4 upwards in Brixton House south London. Girls and boys welcome!
Classes are held in Brixton House, very close to Brixton tube station on Sundays 11.30 am - 12.20 pm. £12 drop in or £10 per class if paid by the term.
Learning flamenco allows children to develop a strong sense of rhythm and musicality, excellent physical coordination and an appreciation of the rich cultural heritage of this art form from Andalucia.

WHAT TO WEAR:
Children should wear clothes they are comfortable moving in. There is no need to buy flamenco shoes for your child's first flamenco classes but we will be doing some stamping of our feet so please wear comfortable sturdy shoes that will not slip off your feet too easily. Ideally they should wear a closed toe shoe with a small sturdy heel. For those wishing to use a skirt please wear one with enough volume and length that allows it to be picked up and moved around comfortably.

Harvest Festival – Brixton Windmill

Sunday 29 September, 1pm to 5pm www.brixtonwindmill.org  Our free family festival celebrates the annual wheat harvest and the histories and crafts of milling and artisan bread making with craft workshops,  live music, food, Morris dancing, and beer from Brixton Brewery. Workshops for children include baking and traditional corn dolly making. Our shop and cafe will be open together with milling demonstrations inside the windmill. The day includes: Learn about wheat! Learn all about the growing, harvesting, and milling of the wheat, grain and flour that makes your favourite bakes such as cakes, biscuits, breads and more! With information and practical displays throughout the afternoon from expert millers, and growers. You can even have a go at milling yourself with our hand querns! Our millers will also be demonstrating milling inside the windmill – you’ll be able to sign up on the day. Shop and cafe Open throughout the afternoon selling uniquely designed Brixton Windmill products and freshly baked homemade cakes made with our very own flour. This autumn we will be celebrating the produce grown on site with a Harvest Festival. Join us on Sunday 27th October to mark the bounty of the season. Garden trails, kid’s activities, delicious dishes and even cocktails will all feature our edible garden! And live music from the wonderful SELFolk Orchestra will get your toes tapping! Discover what we grow and what can be made with it. From tasty pickles and preserves, warming comfort food and refreshing drinks, you will have the opportunity to try and buy. Drinks and snacks will be available to purchase on the day. Prebooking is required if you want a hearty dish of seasonal stew. All food will be vegetarian, unfortunately we are unable to cater for other dietary requirements. This is a ticketed event. Free tickets should be booked in advance. Halloween at Brixton Windmill Sunday 27 October, 1pm to 4pm Join us for a free family Halloween event in Windmill Gardens: Lantern carving workshop – make a traditional pumpkin lantern.  A drop in workshop with a maximum of 8 families at a time. If we are busy we’ll have a sign up sheet here on the day.  Please note children must be aged at least 7 and must be accompanied by an adult. Thanks to your support on the crowdfunder we are pleased to say that the free family Herne Hill Halloween Celebration will take place this year on 31st October. If you haven’t donated anything yet, you can still add your magic coins to our cauldron as we haven’t yet reached our target. The event takes place from 5 – 7pm on Thursday 31st October in Station Square and upstairs in Station Hall. The road will be closed to traffic from 3pm on the day and should re-open by 8:30pm. Winter Market and Santa’s Grotto

We have hot food available from En Root and Deuce. Bread Bread will be selling delicious baked goods and our cafe will serve warming mulled wine, hot drinks and snacks. Our shop will be open for purchase of windmill related gifts – something unique for family and friends! There will be free arts and crafts activities for children in the Green Hut throughout the afternoon as well as a Christmas wreath making workshop (bookable in advance) for adults. Santa’s Grotto We are very excited to announce that Santa will return to the Windmill grotto this year from 1-3pm to greet children with a small gift and allow families to capture a festive photo. We suggest a donation of £5 per child. Get your time slot ticket at our welcome desk as you come into the park.
