Hop Skotshne are a fun and dynamic Klezmer band who play fabulous traditional Klezmer tunes. Their line-up consists of clarinet, trumpet, violin, French horn, accordion and poyk. The band take the authentic repertoire of Jewish wedding music from Eastern Europe, and add their unique and inventive interpretations. Curious about faith? Join a series of group conversations that freely explore the basics of the Christian faith in an open, friendly environment. At each Alpha session, you’ll be hosted in a small group, given a meal and watch an episode on a different question of faith – then you have a chance to share your thoughts and hear what others think. You can say anything you like, or nothing at all. Everyone’s welcome. You’re invited, no matter your background or beliefs. It’s free and there’s no pressure to come back. We’re going to the seaside! A place where community unites the locals and those down for a jolly day in the sun. One local, a fisherman, has some fresh lobsters to sell, little does he know that these are not any lobsters, these are Lobster Quadrille Lobsters, who are ready to dance back to the sea. Inspired by Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland and performed by professional aerial actors (Glastonbury/The Royal Opera House) it’s a story of wonder and nonsense laced with lethal wit, of games, riddles and conundrums, of questions with no right answers, but above all of magic and adventure in which you could be the highest bidder on the lobsters! Mambista is back in the summer sun at the Greenhouses this year with an incredible line up of local talent and legendary musicians. Join us in the garden for music, food and drink amongst the flowers. Our first gig of the summer is with Alvorada. Alvorada are the UK’s leading performers of choro – a gorgeous form of instrumental acoustic music from Rio de Janeiro. The band features top musicians from London and Brazil, whose diverse backgrounds – including jazz, classical and Brazilian music – make for a unique and innovative sound. Come along and enjoy a day of creativity, learning the traditional craft of willow weaving! In this 5 hour workshop you will master weaving techniques and make your very own hanging basket which you can take home at the end of the day. Willow weaving is a traditional method for making all kinds of beautiful baskets and containers using natural materials. There are many varieties of willow and many different coloured stems or ‘rods’. The different coloured rods add an extra layer of decoration to your willow weaving allowing you to weave different coloured patterns into your baskets. In this workshop you will learn the traditional method of willow basket weaving but with a twist. The basket will have a pointy base to transform it into a beautiful hanging basket. Hanging baskets can make an attractive addition to any garden, entranceway, front door or courtyard space, and can be planted up with edible or ornamental plants including our trailing bush tomatoes, Tumbling tom yellow and Tumbling tom red which will be on sale at our shop. A full day weekend workshop with skilled ceramic sculptor, Ben Swift. During the one day workshop you will, with guidance and demonstrations from your tutor: Model a small self/portrait head in Terracotta. Learn about proportions of the head. Build up a basic head form on a simple armature support. Use modelling tools to construct the features. Create surface details: hair, skin etc. Finish and prepare the piece for the kiln.! Teacher is Ben Swift Ben is a ceramic artist and ceramics teacher based in Dulwich. His work explores both figurative, geometric and organic subjects with emphasis on process: construction, throwing, casting and fabrication, thus creating rhythms, textures and forms. These are expressed through the treatment of a variety of media. Most often he employs ceramics but he also combines constructed metals and found objects. Recent work has begun to compose disparate elements as assemblages. Cost is £150; concessions £75 As with all Bell House Pottery courses we offer two concession tickets at half price, which can be booked directly at the box office.
