Halloween Time in Herne Hill - Spooky Fun for Days
It's that time of year again: shops around Herne Hill are taking on a spooky look, and there are events to entertain little ones throughout half term and beyond, ending on a high with our annual fangtastic free and fabulous street party, 5-7pm, Thursday 31st October in Station Square.
This year, as you may have seen, we are crowdfunding to cover some of the party costs, with great support from local businesses who are either donating prizes, taking part in the ghost hunt or helping in other ways. The Forum will make up the difference in funds, but any amount that can be spared, large or small, helps us make it a safe, fun and howlingly thrilling night for all. The crowdfunder link is HERE.
On the 31st itself, Jessica from Lucy Sparkles will be calling junior witches to the Florence for a fun hour of dance and drama from 4.15-5.15 - which will finish just as the street party is kicking off!
As usual, the Forum is being supported in our free event by a great team of local businesses who will be doing their bit to feed, water and entertain you: Blackbird Bakery, Sesami, Perks & White, and Minus 12 Degrees will all be open for hot drinks and seasonal treats; Apple Tree Cafe will be providing the toddler and baby-friendly play zone at the party, and you can walk straight into Agile Rabbit for pizza afterwards.
The Ghost Hunt will be running during the party: collect a map from the Forum HQ tent, and then hunt for the ghosts hidden in shops around the square, collect a stamp for each, and come back to pick your prize. Prizes will be available on a first come, first served basis, and while most are suitable for 3 years +, some are aimed at older children, so adults please do check when choosing if the prize is suitable.
The businesses who have kindly donated prizes for the ghost hunt or unlucky dip include:
Herne Hill Books, Tales on Moon Lane, Minus 12 Degrees, Dough Bakehouse, Perks & White, Duo Dance, Agile Rabbit, Bubbles Trouble, Sweet Carolina and KinderLala. Thank you to all of them for their support, and to all the businesses who have helped one way or the other. We'd like to particularly thank Herne Hill Society for their generous donation.
Besides this, we'll have the usual fun and mayhem - spooky films with popcorn from Drum & Kernel, arts and crafts, magic show, zombie disco at Off the Cuff and monster cookies from Sweet Carolina. Bring your best costumes, your weirdest masks, your scariest face paints, and we'll bring the fun!
Please note that children at the party should be supervised by adults at all times.
PS - that's not quite the end of the fun for grown-ups, there will be pumpkin carving at the Parlour from 7.30pm, once the street party is over - £5 to take part (price includes pumpkin) and the winner will win 2 hours of bottomless brunch! Or you can join the Florence for their Halloween pub quiz, where you can win a £50 bar tab, plus prizes for best costumes, dance-offs and more.
Herne Hill Free Halloween Party: 5-7pm in Station Square: remember, the road will be closed, no traffic, all completely free for all.
