DESCRIPTION:A full day weekend workshop with skilled ceramic sculptor\, Ben Swift. \nDuring the one day workshop you will\, with guidance and demonstrations from your tutor: \n\nModel a small self/portrait head in Terracotta.\nLearn about proportions of the head.\nBuild up a basic head form on a simple armature support.\nUse modelling tools to construct the features.\nCreate surface details: hair\, skin etc.\nFinish and prepare the piece for the kiln.!\n\nTeacher is Ben Swift  \nBen is a ceramic artist and ceramics teacher based in Dulwich. His work explores both figurative\, geometric and organic subjects with emphasis on process: construction\, throwing\, casting and fabrication\, thus creating rhythms\, textures and forms. These are expressed through the treatment of a variety of media. Most often he employs ceramics but he also combines constructed metals and found objects. DESCRIPTION:Come along and enjoy a day of creativity\, learning the traditional craft of willow weaving! In this 5 hour workshop you will master weaving techniques and make your very own hanging basket which you can take home at the end of the day.  \nWillow weaving is a traditional method for making all kinds of beautiful baskets and containers using natural materials. There are many varieties of willow and many different coloured stems or ‘rods’. The different coloured rods add an extra layer of decoration to your willow weaving allowing you to weave different coloured patterns into your baskets. \nIn this workshop you will learn the traditional method of willow basket weaving but with a twist. DESCRIPTION:Join us on Sunday 13 April for a family day in Windmill Gardens. We’ll be running a treasure hunt for children with a chocolate treat to find (£2.50 suggested donation) from 1.30pm.  Free Easter themed craft workshops will run at the centre all afternoon. Our cafe and shop will be open and we are hoping for a sunny spring day to enjoy the park and windmill together. \nThe windmill is open for guided tours from 1pm to 5pm so you could combine your visit with a tour if you like!

DESCRIPTION: Ceramic Art and Life \nJoin us for an evening with Julian Stair OBE\, one of UK’s leading potters\, who will talk about the ideas that have shaped his practice over five decades – works that range from the everyday to rites of passage. \nJulian is a leading historian of English studio ceramics. He completed a PhD at the RCA researching the critical origins of English studio pottery and has written extensively throughout his career. He has received awards in recognition of his contribution to contemporary practice including an OBE in 2022 for his services to ceramics. Yale University Press and the Sainsbury Centre published a monograph on his work ‘Memory Material Ceramics’ in 2024. \nHe has exhibited internationally since 1982\, where he has worked in over 30 public collections including at the V&A\, British Museum\, American Museum of Art & Design\, Mashiko Museum of Ceramic Art and many more.
