DESCRIPTION:Come along and enjoy a day of creativity\, learning the traditional craft of willow weaving\, to which you can add a modern twist! You will make an elegant willow bowl or basket which you can take home at the end of the day and if you happen to be a rather quick weaver you may even have time to make a little decorative willow sphere.  \nWillow weaving is a traditional craft once practised in many places where willow trees grow\, typically on open flat ground that has a plentiful water supply such as the Somerset Levels. \nWillow is a very versatile weaving material from which you can create decorative and useful items such as plant supports\, willow sphere planters\, garden sculptures\, ‘live’ fences\, firewood baskets and shopping baskets. \nIn this workshop you will learn about the various types of willow you can weave with and the differences between living willow and basket makers willow. You will become familiar with tradition tools such as the bodkin and rapping iron. \nAll material and tools provided. \n  \n“As a complete beginner I loved learning about willow weaving in BPCG’s new barn. It was a small friendly group and Cat the tutor was great. We each made a basket and either finished them on the day or took home the materials and knowledge to do so. She has two current projects. The first\, night folkways works on vocal and sound looping with pedals\, to create a kind of otherworldly shoegaze. Her second project tells new folk stories and feminist readings of classic folk tales. \nCheck out Demi on Instagram \n  \nDemi will be supported by: \nANSER \nVirginia Sutera\, violin\nAlberto Braida\, piano \nVirginia Sutera’s and Alberto Braida’s Duo takes its name from the binary star Anser\, whose two stars orbit around their common centre of mass. Like the star\, Virginia and Alberto see themselves revolving around a common musical idea\, whilst both holding their individual identities and styles. DESCRIPTION:The Psoas: Seat of the Soul\nFor tension to be released in the tissues of the body\, first\, it needs to be activated. Gaze into this visual above – how does this make you feel\, and importantly\, what does it awaken in you? \nWeakness in this deep seated muscle\, the deepest in the body – the psoas major\, can create postural unpleasantness\, low back irritations\, breathing issues and a lack of confidence. \nTo both strengthen and support/ease\, this incredible innermost part of us\, requires a gathering embodied awareness of what’s going on around it. \nI like to call this ‘neighbourly relations’. Just as we wish to be on good terms with our next door neighbours\, so too\, we wish to be on good terms with our own myo-fascial networks (myo meaning muscle\, fascia relating to the connective tissue throughout the body) \nMore about the psoas \n\nPsoas’ – stems from Greek\, meaning muscle of the loin\nHas close relations with the iliacus muscle\, hence we might see it referred to combined as ‘iliopsoas’\nKey stabiliser and muscle that assists in walking/running – notice how it inserts at the femur – the thigh bone? It connects abdomen to the legs\nVital in harnessing effective and healthy posture – how we move through our daily fabric\nOriginates near the top of the solar plexus\, at the bottom of the thoracic spine (T12)\n\nDeep seated upset might be buried here. When we crack open the embodiment doorway\, we are truly connecting with what is there\, through sensation. \nSensation is information. \nCome and experience this deep part of you for yourself. That is the true teacher. Your amazing body. \nThe arc of the session: \n\nWelcome and introduction to the theme and the psoas experience\nConnecting with coherent breathing to both activate and release these deeper abdominal muscles\nMoving through an intelligently designed hip releasing sequence\, that begins gently\, and layers into deeper squats and lunges\, ending into a series of relieving\, longer held passive poses to release what has been activated.\nA long restful and supported final relaxation\n\nCome away with a greater and deeper connection to this part of you\, that always sits within the context of the whole. \nThe session infuses a weave of embodied coherent breathing\, along with soothing hip opening sequences to ease tension from the pelvic bowl\, hamstrings and lower back topography. DESCRIPTION:There has been a marked upturn in crime and anti-social behaviour in recent months. From shop-lifting through to car crime\, thefts from doorsteps and muggings for mobile phones. The Herne Hill Forum has organised a public meeting to highlight these issues and to find out what is being done to combat them. We will have representatives from the Police\, Councillors (Lambeth and Southwark)\, rough sleeping outreach teams and the safer neighbourhood panel. \nWe are also collating in advance the key issues that have affected people so we can make sure that they are addressed at the meeting. If you have experienced any specific issue or are aware of problems in the Herne Hill area then please let us know by emailing in to info@hernehillforum.org.uk. \nAs we are expecting a high turnout we are asking people to book via Eventbrite to let us know you will be attending. \nTogether as a community we can really make a difference to how things are tackled\, your support is really important in making this happen. \nIf you can help with the meeting\, maybe book people in\, hand out tea and coffee or help with publicity then please let us know\, we welcome more volunteers. \nBook a free place >>
