DESCRIPTION:Introduction to Backbends – Overcoming fear and finding balance. \nThere is a link to book this workshop here. \nNina will lead this workshop to introduce and develop backbends. \nNot suitable for absolute beginners; you should have a reasonable level of fitness and regular asana practice. \n\n\n\n\n\n\nOur body’s natural response to danger is to curl in\, protecting our most vulnerable part – our heart\, both the physical heart and the energetic heart space (anahata). Backbends do the very opposite action opening us up to the world. We are exposing ourselves and that takes courage – but also builds more of it! Overcoming our fears on the mat can give us courage off the mat too. \nAnahata is the center of compassion\, and a positive balance in the heart chakra cultivates sensitivity and unconditional love for self and others. \nOur spines are an incredible combination of strength and flexibility – of Sthira and Sukha. \nPracticing backbends can open up the front body\, increase your hip flexibility\, and improve the mobility of your lumbar and thoracic spine. \nBackbends are invigorating and strengthening. They stretch the quads and hip flexors and help open up the shoulders and chest\, an area where lots of us hold tension. They build strength and power in the legs\, arms and back muscles.  Also\, they can teach us to embrace vulnerabilities and build resilience. \nWe will cover beginner to intermediate asanas; using props\, assists and fun drills to explore key backbend postures safely. \n\nBhujangurasana/Cobra & Urdhva Mukha Savasana/Upward Facing Dog\nSalabhasana/Locust & Dhanurasana/Bow\nSupta Virasana/Saddle & Ustrasana/Camel\nSetu Bandha Sarvangasana/Bridge & Urdvha Dhanurasana/Wheel\n\nWe will finish off with a Metta Bhavana\, meditation of loving kindness. \nCome and join me for a fun exploration of opening the body\, heart & mind

DESCRIPTION:A free\, monthly opportunity to share songs informally with a group of people who want to hear them! \nIn the function room at the Grove House Tavern in Camberwell on the last Thursday evening of the month. \nWe sit around a bunch of tables\, listen and take turns to sing each other a song. Usually we go round everyone three or four times. You don’t have to arrive at the start (though it’s easier if you do) or stay till the end. \nNo mics\, no speakers\, no stage\, no “down the front”.  Most sing unaccompanied\, acoustic instruments are welcome. \nEveryone listens\, and every song gets a clap. No one has to sing\, everyone is invited to. If you do\, you can sing whatever you like. If you need the song words that’s fine. \nTo help with inspiration\, each month we have an entirely optional theme. Feel free to ignore it. \nNext session Thursday 30 April. Optional theme: Dance

SUMMARY:Craft Sessions: Make Your Own Mosaic Tile
DESCRIPTION:Join us for a relaxed and friendly evening when you will learn the art of mosaic making to create your own small decorative tile or functional coaster to take home at the end of the evening.    During the evening you will discover: \n\nAn introduction to mosaic making\nBasic health and safety when creating mosaics\nDemonstration of techniques and styles to create your own mosaic tile\nAn explanation on grouting your tile\n\nThere will be hands on support available through the session to help you learn how to cut and shape ceramic and glass tiles to make your perfect piece.  We will also demonstrate and explain how to grout your piece; as we might not have time to do this in the session\, we will provide the materials and resources for you to be able to do this at home. \nWho is it for?\n18+\, the class is beginner friendly. All materials will be provided. \nWhat you need to consider:  \n\nThis is a taster session therefore it is suitable for people with no experience in mosaics.\nAll materials and tools will be provided.\nA good level of dexterity is needed to use tools safely when making your mosaic tile.\nThe mosaics made in this workshop will be for indoor use only and should avoid getting wet. They may be cleaned with gentle damp cloth if need be.\nPlease dress appropriately for a potentially messy activity.\nWe will not have time to grout our mosaics during this session as it can take some time for the glue to settle.  We will do a demonstration and you will be provided with the materials and resources to grout your mosaic on the night so you can complete this at home once the glue has set on your design.  Or we can arrange to grout it for you and for you to collect it at a later date.
