SUMMARY:Herne Hill Halloween 2024
DESCRIPTION:Thanks to your support on the crowdfunder we are pleased to say that the free family Herne Hill Halloween Celebration will take place this year on 31st October. If you haven’t donated anything yet\, you can still add your magic coins to our cauldron as we haven’t yet reached our target. \nThe event takes place from 5 – 7pm on Thursday 31st October in Station Square and upstairs in Station Hall. The road will be closed to traffic from 3pm on the day and should re-open by 8:30pm. Confirmed so far we have: \n\na marvelous magician\na fiendish face painter\nan unlucky dip – what will you win?\na gripping ghost hunt – win a prize if you catch them all!\nmystery boxes- do you dare put your hand inside?\nlittle monsters play area (for tiny tots\, hosted by Apple Tree cafe)\na photo booth with props to take pics with\nfamily disco (in Station Hall)\n\nThis year we have teamed up with the Kids Playhouse\, who will be hosting a Halloween family disco upstairs in Station Hall\, above Herne Hill train station\, ideal for 5 – 10 year olds. Leave your buggy downstairs at the dedicated buggy park (left at your own risk) and head on up. Sadly the space is only reached via a set of stairs\, but there’s plenty to do on street level if you can’t get up there. \nWe’re working day and night to bring you even more! \nWe’re now looking for volunteers to help run the event. There’s lots to do from 3 – 8pm so drop us a line and tell us when you are available. \nGet dressed up and head on down the Station Square for some Halloween fun. \n

SUMMARY:HHMF24 - Hank Dogs • Sun. 20th Oct. Brockwell Park Community Greenhouses 3-5pm
DESCRIPTION:“Buried British treasure\, they deserve to be discovered” – The Independent \nLegendary UK & South London Alt Country\, folk roots and Americana band Hank Dogs are finally set to release their long-awaited third album as they play HHMF in the wonderful surroundings of Brockwell Park Community Greenhouses. Their first two albums were produced by Joe Boyd (Nick Drake\, John Martin\, Fairport Convention…) The album will be on sale at the gig. \nAndy has been running The Easycome Acoustic Club in South London for over 30 years\, it remains one of the longest running clubs in London. \nHank Dogs – Andy Allan\, Piano and Lily Ramona – started out at folk clubs in London in the early 1990s becoming a vital part of the British modern folk scene. In 1998 they went worlwide when Nick Drake’s legendary producer Joe Boyd declared them the first British act he’d loved in 30 years. \nTheir debut album ‘Bareback’ saw them touring the US with Joan Baez and winning fans with their quiet\, haunting sound featuring ethereal vocal harmonies\, strong traces of blues and Celtic music and Allan’s fluid acoustic finger-picking recalling UK folk guitarists John Renbourn and Bert Jansch. \nA follow-up ‘Half Smile’ appeared in 2002 but then when Andy and Piano split so did the band. \nLuckily a 3rd unreleased album ‘Fiveways’ had been recorded before they went their separate ways and now it’s finally seeing the light of day on independent label Scratchy in October this year. The band will be re-uniting for some long overdue gigs to celebrate the release. \nThere are only a handful of concessionary tickets left for this show via We Got Tickets. \nhttps://hernehillfestival.org/programme/2024-10-20/details/199-Hank+Dogs \nhttps://wegottickets.com/event/630347

SUMMARY:Lambeth Open 2024
DESCRIPTION:Explore your creative neighbourhood.\n \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n \nOn the first weekend of October artists and crafts people across the borough of Lambeth will be opening their studio and work spaces to the public. Doors will be open from 10am to 6pm\, 5th and 6th October and admission will be free.Dots will be added to our map as artists and makers sign up to this year’s event. Lambeth Open showcases the fantastic range of creative talent tucked away in our borough and is a great way to discover the various art spaces too often hidden in your neighbourhoods. \nVisitors will be able to see inside the artist’s studios and exhibition spaces for a unique personal insight into the individual technical processes. Private Views may be held at a number of exhibition spaces\, see venues for details. \n\nFEATURED ARTIST\nKATE NEWINGTON has been living and working in Brixton as an artist for over 35 years. She is a figurative artist and works in collage\, mixed media and acrylic. She has made approximately 40 collage portraits by commission over the years. \nApart from collage portraiture\, a big part of her work has been focussed around the rich tradition of still life in this country\, with reference particularly to the work of still life artists past and present who have made and make work in the Southwest. Although she lives in Brixton she often visits St Ives and much of her work is influenced by Cornish vistas and the art culture of that area. \nAs well as showing work locally in South London\, she is a member of the Society of Women Artists and shows regularly at Mall Galleries in central London\, the Royal West of England Academy in Bristol\, with the Bath Society of Artists and more locally at The Lovely Gallery in Sydenham. \n\nFEATURED ARTIST\nREB REID SCOTT The diversity of Reb’s practice reflects her wide ranging interests and appetite for growth and exploration. Working across acrylic\, pastel\, charcoal and embroidery\, her work ranges from large\, colourful abstract paintings to more muted and intimate drawings of nudes. \nReb’s love of the natural world\, fascination with the human form and the way we understand ourselves and present these to eachother is at the heart of her artistic output. Come and look around her flat where there will be a multitude of work for sale. Browsers welcome. \n\nFEATURED ARTIST\nJORGE SANCHEZis a self-taught Filipino artist. He worked for over 10 years in Manila as a pharmacist before moving to the UK. Before long he picked up a paintbrush and started creating his own work\, reviving the interest he has had in art since his schooldays. Since he started painting about eight years ago he has developed a distinctive abstract/impressionist style. \nJorge has a fascination for colour and texture. He uses a variety of media including household paints\, oils\, pastels and acrylic\, applying them to the canvas with brush\, palette knife or fingers. He finds inspiration in the natural world – many of his paintings reflect the joy of walks in London’s green spaces. When he starts to paint\, he doesn’t always have an image in mind; but once the brush or palette knife makes contact with the canvas\, it moves with its own energy and the image emerges as layer upon layer is applied or scraped away. Painting is his passion!
