Join us for the Herne Hill Forum's Annual General Meeting on Weds 14th Dec 2022 at 7 – 9pm, downstairs in the Herne Hill Baptist Church (on the corner of Half Moon Lane & Winterbrook). All welcome for mince pies and local news. Doors open at 6.30pm for refreshments. This year, the format will be a little different with members of the various project teams describing what they do and hoping to encourage volunteers to join in. There will be brief presentations from the Community Stall, Reimagine Herne Hill, Town Centre, Halloween and Retrofit Teams and plenty of time for questions and answers during the meeting or in the pub afterwards. Many of us are recent arrivals to Herne Hill. Volunteering is an easy way to meet the neighbours, do some good and have a little fun.

Brockwell take on the Challenge of the Channel

Brockwell Lido Dulwich Rd, London, London, United Kingdom

At the beginning of August the Brockwell Swimmers club will be challenging the English Channel with a five person relay team swimming from Dover to France on the 14th August. Also on the previous Saturday 12th August other members will try to swim the same distance at Brockwell Lido. Both hope to raise over £5,000 for the RNLI who do an amazing job saving lives at sea around our UK coast. The twenty and half mile crossing will be swum one hour at a time by each of the five person relay team; e.g. one hour swim then four hours rest. Last year’s successful swim took just over 14 hours to reach the French shore so fingers crossed for a good result in 2023.The club has booked the Connemara, skippered by Kevin Sherman, for the neap tide 14th August. This is a prime slot to swim but if the weathers does misbehave the swim may be delayed until later in the year. On the previous Saturday morning 12th August the Brockwell Swimmers club will also be attempting to swim a matching distance at the Lido. This will be a combined swim with a goal of reaching 676 lengths, also raising money...

Milkwood Summer Programme

The Milkwood Summer Programme is a fun packed two-week event in our local community for children and young people aged 6-16 in the Milkwood Community Park.  In 2023 this will be from the 21st August to the 1st September from 10am-2pm. Each day we operate a first come first served basis for entry. A consent form is needed for every child. If you have already completed one for another Parish of Herne Hill activity you don’t need to do another one provided your contact details haven’t changed. We team up with providers such as KickLondon, Heart in Art Workshops, and Dough Bakehouse to create an action-packed programme for children and young people to be a blessing in the community. Mondays, Tuesdays, Wednesday, Thursdays are filled with outdoor multi-sports, arts & crafts, and games & puzzles. On Fridays we take young people aged 11+ on a range of trips.  There will not be a session on Bank Holiday Monday on the 28th August. If you have any questions please do ask Pipelore who is leading it this year on ‭07563 191309‬.

Singing Mamas – South London

Herne Hill Baptist Church Half Moon Lane, London, United Kingdom

Singing Mamas is all about taking care of the women who spend so much time being busy taking care of others. It's all about making YOU feel good. There are no auditions, no solos, no reading music. Just simple songs taught by ear, with the aim to reduce stress, connect with others, build community, and improve wellbeing. Oh, and there's always tea and cake, too. No prior musical experience is needed - we sing for connection, not for perfection! Mums, grandmas, bumps, babies, older children, and women without kids are all welcome. We meet at the Coffee Lounge in Herne Hill Baptist Church on Half Moon Lane every Thursday from 10-11.30am. If for some reason you can't make that session, we also have groups on Tuesdays in Streatham Vale in the Vestry room adjoining the Holy Redeemer Church, also at 10-1130am. You can book a taster session at www.georgialadbury.com/singing - or if you're 36+ weeks pregnant, sessions are free. We strongly believe that everyone should have access to the benefits of singing, so please get in touch if you feel there are barriers to joining the group (inc financial) so we can help find a solution.
