SUMMARY:Willow Weaving Workshop: Make Your Own Sustainable Plant Supports!
DESCRIPTION:Come along and enjoy a day of creativity\, learning the traditional craft of willow weaving. In this workshop we will be focussing on how to make attractive and sustainable supports for your plants\, using willow and traditional willow weaving techniques. \nIn this 4.5 hour workshop you will be shown how to make three different plant supports. A traditional circular support\, good for plants like dahlias and peonies\, stopping them from flopping over. For taller plants like sweet peas\, you can make a willow obelisk and for very small plants\, or as a form of plant protection\, you can make a miniature willow dome. \nWillow is a very versatile weaving material from which you can create decorative and useful items such as plant supports\, garden sculptures\, ‘live’ fences\, firewood baskets and shopping baskets. You will learn all about the various types of willow you can weave with and the differences between living willow and dried willow. As well as becoming familiar with traditional tools such as the bodkin and rapping iron. \nYou will make one or more plant support which you can take home at the end of the day\, plus the knowledge to make many more! \nAll material and tools provided. \n“As a complete beginner I loved learning about willow weaving in BPCG’s new barn. It was a small friendly group and Cat the tutor was great.” \n  \nBook here

SUMMARY:Introduction to Willow Weaving
DESCRIPTION:Come along and enjoy a day of creativity\, learning the traditional craft of willow weaving\, to which you can add a modern twist! You will make an elegant willow bowl or basket which you can take home at the end of the day and if you happen to be a rather quick weaver you may even have time to make a little decorative willow sphere.  \nWillow weaving is a traditional craft once practised in many places where willow trees grow\, typically on open flat ground that has a plentiful water supply such as the Somerset Levels. \nWillow is a very versatile weaving material from which you can create decorative and useful items such as plant supports\, willow sphere planters\, garden sculptures\, ‘live’ fences\, firewood baskets and shopping baskets. \nIn this workshop you will learn about the various types of willow you can weave with and the differences between living willow and basket makers willow. You will become familiar with tradition tools such as the bodkin and rapping iron. \nAll material and tools provided. \n  \n“As a complete beginner I loved learning about willow weaving in BPCG’s new barn. It was a small friendly group and Cat the tutor was great. We each made a basket and either finished them on the day or took home the materials and knowledge to do so. I was very proud of my slightly wonky one!” \n  \nBOOK HERE

SUMMARY:Lambeth Open 2023
DESCRIPTION:Explore your creative neighbourhood.\n \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n \nOn the first weekend of October artists and crafts people across the borough of Lambeth will be opening their studio and work spaces to the public. Doors will be open from 10am to 6pm\, 7th and 8th October and admission will be free. \nDots will be added to our map as artists and makers sign up to this year’s event. Lambeth Open showcases the fantastic range of creative talent tucked away in our borough and is a great way to discover the various art spaces too often hidden in your neighbourhoods. \nVisitors will be able to see inside the artist’s studios and exhibition spaces for a unique personal insight into the individual technical processes. Private Views may be held at a number of exhibition spaces\, see venues for details. \n\nFEATURED ARTIST\nJORGE SANCHEZ works from his home in Herne Hill\, where he paints on canvas with acrylic and mixed media. His work\, mainly in abstract impressionist style\, reflects his fascination with texture and colour\, and includes real and imagined landscapes and woodland scenes inspired by his love of trees and open spaces\, as well as pure abstract forms. \nHis latest paintings adopt a square format ranging in size from 40×40 to 100x100cm. A picture framer as well as a painter\, he stretches and frames his own canvases. \n\nFEATURED ARTIST\nPRISCILLA WATKINS is inspired by regular swimming at Brockwell Lido. Her oil paintings are meditations on a theme of light and water\, and how the experience of swimming removes us for a moment from everyday life\, providing solace\, peace and a chance for recovery. \nShe also creates paper pools inspired by the characters she imagines in the water and will be selling copies of her popular linocut print Lido Steps. 10% off website prices for Open visitors. \n\nFEATURED ARTIST\nLUCY DUKE paints landscapes\, still life and interiors in watercolour\, pastel and oil pastel. All her works are made on paper and vary from small to large. There is a strong abstract quality to the work as she is interested in colour\, mark making and the qualities of light. Her work is held in many private collections around the world.
