Explore your creative neighbourhood. On the first weekend of October artists and crafts people across the borough of Lambeth will be opening their studio and work spaces to the public. Doors will be open from 10am to 6pm, 7th and 8th October and admission will be free. Dots will be added to our map as artists and makers sign up to this year's event. Lambeth Open showcases the fantastic range of creative talent tucked away in our borough and is a great way to discover the various art spaces too often hidden in your neighbourhoods. Visitors will be able to see inside the artist’s studios and exhibition spaces for a unique personal insight into the individual technical processes. FEATURED ARTIST JORGE SANCHEZ works from his home in Herne Hill, where he paints on canvas with acrylic and mixed media. His work, mainly in abstract impressionist style, reflects his fascination with texture and colour, and includes real and imagined landscapes and woodland scenes inspired by his love of trees and open spaces, as well as pure abstract forms. Join us at Brockwell Park Community Greenhouses for a free afternoon of repairing and recycling! From darning your favourite jumper to sharpening those secateurs, come and learn from our community and give those much-loved items a much-needed refresh. Beginners Flamenco Classes

Ever wanted to try flamenco dancing? Why not join our regular beginners class now running at Brixton House?
Flamenco is a rich and complex art form which encompasses singing, dancing and musical accompaniment. In these classes students get the opportunity to learn the basics of flamenco dance technique including footwork, and hand, arm and body movements. A short choreography to music will be taught to develop an understanding of how the dance accompanies the flamenco singing. All students are assured of individual attention and they will be nurtured and supported to dance their best and most of all enjoy this rich art form.

£17 Drop in and £60 for a 4 week term.

WHAT TO WEAR:
Please wear clothes that are comfortable to move around in. We will be stamping our feet so please wear a closed toe shoe with a sturdy heel. Stillettos are not suitable. Students wishing to dance with a skirt are advised to wear a wide, full volume, mid-length to long style.

Flamenco Classes for Children

Flamenco fun for the kids! Regular flamenco dance classes for children aged 4 upwards in Brixton House south London. Girls and boys welcome!
Classes are held in Brixton House, very close to Brixton tube station on Sundays 11.30 am - 12.20 pm. £12 drop in or £10 per class if paid by the term.
Learning flamenco allows children to develop a strong sense of rhythm and musicality, excellent physical coordination and an appreciation of the rich cultural heritage of this art form from Andalucia.

WHAT TO WEAR:
Children should wear clothes they are comfortable moving in. There is no need to buy flamenco shoes for your child's first flamenco classes but we will be doing some stamping of our feet so please wear comfortable sturdy shoes that will not slip off your feet too easily. Ideally they should wear a closed toe shoe with a small sturdy heel. For those wishing to use a skirt please wear one with enough volume and length that allows it to be picked up and moved around comfortably.

We have a range of workshops happening at Brockwell Park Community Greenhouses over Easter for kids to attend with a parent / carer.  As the air gets warmer and the days get longer, both plants and animals spring to life creating a flurry of activity in the garden.  Its an exciting time of year.  Come to the garden to explore these spring changes. Tue 2nd Apr |  Bread Creatures for 4-6 year olds - hunt for herbs, kneed some dough and shape your own bread creatures as a tasty snack. Wed 3rd Apr | Brockwell Bird Collage Collective for 7-10 year olds - be inspired by the many birds species that visit the gardens and then create your own unique collage. Mon 8th Apr | Spring Flower Fun for 4-6 year olds - join Bumble the Busy Bee to explore the wondrous flowers in the garden, play some games and plant your own sunflower to take home. Tue 9th Apr | Beastly Bugs for 7-10 year olds - work together to complete a beastly bug scavenger hunt and then create your own beasty sculpture.
