DESCRIPTION:Temporary photo exhibition about Brockfest – a free community youth music festival held at Brockwell Hall in September featuring 121 artists from a local youth open mic. All photos by student live music photographers.\n\nOpening day only (10-5pm\, 30th Nov) features elements of the bespoke speaker array used in the festival. Live performances from singer songwriters (and Brockfest performers) Eva Witney and Betty Ablett on piano in the exhibition room.\n\nThe 5 easel displays built especially for the photo exhibition will be donated to The Hall afterwards\, as a platform for other community groups to tell their stories.

DESCRIPTION:A full day weekend workshop with skilled ceramic sculptor\, Ben Swift. \nDuring the one day workshop you will\, with guidance and demonstrations from your tutor: \n\nModel a small self/portrait head in Terracotta.\nLearn about proportions of the head.\nBuild up a basic head form on a simple armature support.\nUse modelling tools to construct the features.\nCreate surface details: hair\, skin etc.\nFinish and prepare the piece for the kiln.!\n\nTeacher is Ben Swift  \nBen is a ceramic artist and ceramics teacher based in Dulwich. His work explores both figurative\, geometric and organic subjects with emphasis on process: construction\, throwing\, casting and fabrication\, thus creating rhythms\, textures and forms. These are expressed through the treatment of a variety of media. Most often he employs ceramics but he also combines constructed metals and found objects. DESCRIPTION:Come along and enjoy a day of creativity\, learning the traditional craft of willow weaving! In this 5 hour workshop you will master weaving techniques and make your very own hanging basket which you can take home at the end of the day.  \nWillow weaving is a traditional method for making all kinds of beautiful baskets and containers using natural materials. There are many varieties of willow and many different coloured stems or ‘rods’. The different coloured rods add an extra layer of decoration to your willow weaving allowing you to weave different coloured patterns into your baskets. \nIn this workshop you will learn the traditional method of willow basket weaving but with a twist. The basket will have a pointy base to transform it into a beautiful hanging basket. \nHanging baskets can make an attractive addition to any garden\, entranceway\, front door or courtyard space\, and can be planted up with edible or ornamental plants including our trailing bush tomatoes\, Tumbling tom yellow and Tumbling tom red which will be on sale at our shop. \nAll material and tools provided. \nBOOK HERE

DESCRIPTION: Ceramic Art and Life \nJoin us for an evening with Julian Stair OBE\, one of UK’s leading potters\, who will talk about the ideas that have shaped his practice over five decades – works that range from the everyday to rites of passage. \nJulian is a leading historian of English studio ceramics. He completed a PhD at the RCA researching the critical origins of English studio pottery and has written extensively throughout his career. He has received awards in recognition of his contribution to contemporary practice including an OBE in 2022 for his services to ceramics. Yale University Press and the Sainsbury Centre published a monograph on his work ‘Memory Material Ceramics’ in 2024. \nHe has exhibited internationally since 1982\, where he has worked in over 30 public collections including at the V&A\, British Museum\, American Museum of Art & Design\, Mashiko Museum of Ceramic Art and many more. This year’s theme is “growth”. \nWe have a range of free drop in workshops on offer throughout the afternoon suitable for adults\, children and families working together. \nWorkshops include pop up cards\, t-shirt painting\, “drawing diversity”\, junk plants and natural cord jewellery making. \nMost activities are free\, but donations for materials are always welcome. \nIt is also possible to take a guided tour of Brixton Windmill during the afternoon\, 1-5pm – last tour at 4.40pm. \nBook a tour here. \nA variety of delicious home made cakes and hot and cold drinks will be on sale as well as our colourful range of windmill merchandise\, including T-shirts\, mugs\, tea towels and freshly milled wholemeal flour.

Alongside them are our faithful community members\, volunteers\, friends\, and neighbours\, all of whom play an integral role in fostering a warm and inclusive atmosphere. Additionally\, our team of dedicated L’Arche assistants adds further support and care to our core members. \nWe also have a wide-ranging programme of day activities\, which is open to people with disabilities living in or outside L’Arche. We work with individuals to develop daily living skills\, we make space for creativity and fun and we are passionate about helping people to reach their goals.\nThe hubs for our activities programme is our two amazing workshops. Our large community garden workshop is where we support people to harvest and grow fruit\, vegetables and flowers. We sell some of our produce locally and share the rest between our Community houses and friends. In our craft workshop\, people make and sell beautiful products\, such as handmade cards\, candles\, embroideries and much more. Our talented drama group creates its productions\, scripts\, costumes and props from scratch and performs in local churches and theatres.

DESCRIPTION:Join us for a pre-loved clothing swap and mending session.\nBring the clothes you have buried at the back of your wardrobe\, pass them on to a new owner and find something for yourself\, too. \nThe focus of the event is sustainable fashion\, so we will have drop-in mending sessions facilitated by lovely people who can share their skills and tips. \nGuidelines\nFor the Stitch: \nThis is your chance to fix the clothes you want to keep\, but need a little extra love & attention. Friendly helpers will be on hand to guide you – whether it’s sewing up hems\, buttons or doing some visible mending. Basic resources will be provided but if you might need anything else (buttons\, zips etc)\, please bring them! \nFor the Switch: \nPlease bring as many items as you like – we welcome clothing of all genders and sizes. You will then receive a token for each piece of clothing you have contributed. From 1:30pm\, you will have the opportunity to choose something new – 1 token for each new item. \nIf you don’t have anything to fix\, there will be an area in the lovely hall to relax with free teas and coffees. SUMMARY:Willow Weaving Workshop: Make Your Own Sustainable Plant Supports!
DESCRIPTION:Come along and enjoy a day of creativity\, learning the traditional craft of willow weaving. In this workshop we will be focussing on how to make attractive and sustainable supports for your plants\, using willow and traditional willow weaving techniques. \nIn this 4.5 hour workshop you will be shown how to make three different plant supports. A traditional circular support\, good for plants like dahlias and peonies\, stopping them from flopping over. For taller plants like sweet peas\, you can make a willow obelisk and for very small plants\, or as a form of plant protection\, you can make a miniature willow dome. \nWillow is a very versatile weaving material from which you can create decorative and useful items such as plant supports\, garden sculptures\, ‘live’ fences\, firewood baskets and shopping baskets. You will learn all about the various types of willow you can weave with and the differences between living willow and dried willow. As well as becoming familiar with traditional tools such as the bodkin and rapping iron. \nYou will make one or more plant support which you can take home at the end of the day\, plus the knowledge to make many more! \nAll material and tools provided. \n“As a complete beginner I loved learning about willow weaving in BPCG’s new barn.
