This free event is the last of four and will cover the topics: “Retrofitting older properties” and “Two years of lessons learnt – insulation dos and don’ts”. Our guest speakers are experts in their field and will share their wealth of knowledge with us so we can make better decisions.
Retrofitting older properties
Natalie Black is director of an architectural practice based in Herne Hill, called Enbee Architecture and Design. She is passionate about reducing energy consumption and increasing comfort levels through the responsible application of low-energy retrofit measures. She is particularly interested in using materials with low embodied carbon.Natalie will discuss the principles behind the way she tackles older properties and why she believes these are better for the building and those living in it and the planet overall. She will give insight into how the materials product data is used to predict how thermally efficient the building will be once the retrofit is completed.
Repowering is a not-for-profit organisation based in Brixton that empowers communities to fund, install and manage their own renewable, local energy.
Omar Al-Amin from Repowering will briefly explain how private leaseholders can advocate for and finance whole building retrofit in their blocks and estates.
Two years of lessons learnt – insulation dos and don’ts
Melissa Merryweather is an architect, project manager and Retrofit specialist. She helped write a green building certification system for use in Vietnam and lectured all over Asia on sustainability. Once back in the UK she concentrated her knowledge on domestic properties which are responsible for a large proportion of the country’s carbon emissions, are poorly ventilated, damp and difficult to heat (don’t we know it!) She is the Director of two companies: Hearth and Green Consult Global.Melissa will bring her experience as a Retrofit Co-ordinator to bust some of the myths around insulation. She’ll share with us some of her dos and don’ts and will touch on related topics such as doors, windows and ventilation.
