The Herne Hill Free Film Festival 2023 celebrates their 10th Anniversary this May with seven feature films, three short film nights, and the return of the highly anticipated 48 Hour Film Challenge.
The festival kicks off on Weds 3 May with Empire of Light at the Herne Hill Baptist Church. There are screenings throughout May. Please visit the website for more information https://freefilmfestivals.org/filmfestival/herne-hill and follow us on social media for more updates.
Two family favourites, The Iron Giant and E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial, will show at two of Herne Hill’s classic hidden venues. The Iron Giant, an animated film about a young boy who befriends a giant robot from outer space, will screen in the new barn at Brockwell Park Community Greenhouses – come early for tea and home-made cakes! The festival has long wanted to screen ET at the magical Herne Hill Velodrome, and has finally secured the licence to do so on 26 May.
The Herne Hill Free Film Festival was established to bring film to all corners of the local community, to make cinema accessible to everyone and to introduce people to films they might not otherwise see. This year the festival will again be supporting the local Norwood & Brixton Foodbank with donations of money collected at screenings.
