What's in a name? Especially a Herne Hillian's!? 

Writing as Sax Rohmer and living in 51 Herne Hill (look for the blue plaque), Arthur Henry Ward penned his infamous Fu Manchu novels. 2013 marked the 100 year anniversary of his first 'The Mystery of Dr. Fu Manchu'. Asked by The New Yorker why he adopted his curious pen name, Ward replied:

A musical and market event to thank the community and piano supporters for the overwhelming response and generosity on the fundraising for the new piano, the Herne Hill Forum will be hosting a party and mini market to mark the arrival of the new piano and retirement of the old piano with live music from local artists.

The fair is this Saturday, September 17th, from 2-5pm, at All Saints Church on Lovelace Road in West Dulwich.

The Friends of Brockwell Park carboot sale is the second Sunday in the month (during warmer seasons).  Which means ... THIS SUNDAY August 14th is the August carboot date! Running out of weather and with that event dates - just one more FoBP carboot sale this year after Sunday and that will be on September 11th. Where's summer disappearing to?
