Sustainable Energy: SE24 Campaign Launch Success

Worried about climate change but don't know what to do? Keen to support solar energy but have no idea how? Those were the questions that a group of Herne Hill cyclists chatted about as they pedalled along. Until they decided to set up a group – SE24 – to provide solar answers that we can be part of in our very own Herne Hill and South East London. So on Sunday 12th July, hosted by the Salvation Army, SE24 organised an evening of expert speakers and provided people a chance to share ideas.

SE24 Raising Awareness at Herne Hill Market

Sustainable Energy 24, SE24, at the Herne Hill Market

SE24, now officially a certified Community Benefit Society, had a successful and fun day yesterday at the Herne Hill Market. With a sustainable energy-themed spin the wheel game for kids and free cycle-powered smoothies for all we really did attract a lot of attention! But beyond the fun and games it was amazing to spend the time talking to people about SE24, solar panels and our plans. Most importantly, it was very encouraging to find so many people supportive of the project.

D.C. Resists tomorrow May 2nd, 12-2pm

There will be a community protest in Herne Hill at Dorchester Court tomorrow May 2nd, from 12-2. D.C. Resists (a private renters campaign group) has been set up to highlight D.C.'s landlord/freeholder Manaquel and to fight for a fair deal for tenants. The campaign group says Manaquel has allowed the building to fall into disrepair while pushing in rent hikes for tenants (by as much as 60% in a single year) which when questioned, results in eviction being pushed in once assured shorthold tenancy contract expires.
