Market 7 days a week???

Some of you may have received a letter from Lambeth Council detailing proposals for a market trading 7 days a week, from 8am until 11.30pm in Station Square on Railton Road.

The letter was very poorly worded and has caused understandable consternation and confusion in the community. There will be a meeting to discuss this and allay people’s concerns - details coming soon.

Planning permission has been sought from Lambeth to make the popular Sunday farmers’ market a permanent fixture. However, no application has been made, or will be made, for a 7 day a week market. There is no need or desire for this.

The planning permission currently being consulted on is to allow the following;

  • A weekly farmers’ market
  • The ability to organise ‘one off’ events

Herne Hill Neighbourhood Plan public meeting and EGM

What is your vision for Herne Hill over the coming years?

What does it need; housing, transport, environment, amenities, planning, economy?

Herne Hill is developing a Neighbourhood Plan that will be the blueprint for how development can take place in the local area. The Neighbourhood Plan is written by the local residents and traders who live in the area, thats you!

The meeting on the 27th is the start, getting your ideas, priorities and contributions that will make up the Neighbourhood Plan. It will be a hands-on event, everyone able to contribute.

Development Plans for the "Harmony bar" in Railton Road

The owner of Dog Star has bought the pub on the corner of Effra Road, “Harmony”, and wants to develop it into a restaurant and bar (with accommodation also). This means noise pollution, lots of loud drunken people wondering about late at night, litter and potentially fights, police etc etc. It could really affect our area.  This seems really inappropriate for a heavily residential area!

You can view the plans in Tate Library or on the Lambeth Planning applications database – search for “12/00163/FUL”

Several residents are organising a petition. If you would like to sign it you can sign electronically – just email barnwellroad@hotmail.co.uk with your full name and house number saying you would like to sign the petition. The wording for the petition is below. You can also join the facebook group to stay updated, search for 82 Railton Road Community
