Herne Hill Velodrome

Inaugural Cycling Festival at the Velodrome marks 200 years of the bike in style!

The inaugural World Cycling Revival fast approaches, 14-16 June. It’s a vintage cycling festival at our historic Herne Hill Velodrome (also events at the Griffin Sports Ground in Dulwich Village), celebrating 200 years of the bicycle. Rub shoulders with the stars of cycling, or place bets on a jam-packed racing schedule! A great race should be the Keirin - perhaps the most extreme sport you've never heard of where competitors circle the track on fixed-gear bicycles with no brakes, pacing themselves for a mad sprint at the end!

Open public consulation for new velodrome pavilion

Stage 3 of the Save the Herne Hill Velodrome (HHV) regeneration project is underway.  A planning application for a new pavilion at the Velodrome, set to replace the derelict grandstand, has just been submitted to Southwark Council. The Trust is holding an open public consultation on the plans at the Velodrome, 104 Burbage Road SE24 9HE, on Easter Saturday April 4th from 10am-1pm, and also on Wednesday April 8th 2015, 6pm-8.30pm. Both are wheelchair accessible.

Submitted plans can be viewed via HHV's website at http://goo.gl/CGndtu

These plans and further documents can be viewed on the Turney and Burbage Roads website within the article 'Visit the Herne Hill Velodrome and have your say on the new pavilion, 4th April (10am -1pm) and 8th April (6pm – 8.30pm)' - http://goo.gl/hiQOM7

The Tesco Tax and the benefits for Herne Hill

A new proposal that would allow councils to levy a charge on large supermarkets has been submitted to the Government by Derby City Council with the full backing of 19 other councils from across the country. Dubbed the “Tesco Tax” the levy would provide councils like Southwark’s and Lambeth’s with extra revenue which they would have to reinvest in local areas like Herne Hill.

The detrimental impact large supermarkets have on local communities, local economies and the environment cannot be understated.

Muddy Hell 2013 Event Cancelled

Media Release – 27th September 2013
Rollapaluza regrets to announce the cancellation of Muddy Hell 2013, scheduled for Saturday 26th October 2013.

As the founders of the UK’s most exciting and atmospheric Cyclo-cross event, Rollapaluza strives to put on a bigger and better competition year-on-year. Entering its fifth year, we have been unable to assemble the required funding to provide the scale and exhilarating experience that the event’s fans and competitors have come to expect from us every Halloween.

Every year Muddy Hell is a feat of earth-moving and imagination. As a group dedicated to innovation in cycling events, we are not prepared to compromise on the high standards we set ourselves.

Herne Hill Velodrome Welcomes Disabled Cyclists

South London's iconic track cycling venue experienced a first last Friday 24th February: trike cyclists, handcyclists, side-by-side tandem cyclists, enjoying the thrill of cycling at the Herne Hill Velodrome! This was made possible by British Cycling's re-surfacing of the banked track, last August, which included the addition of a 3.6m wide, flat strip, enabling others than 2 wheeler race-cyclists to ride at Herne Hill.
