Herne Hill Music Festival needs leafleting help!

The Herne Hill Music Festival begins on the 11th of October with Stan Tracey at the Jazz On The Hill. Artists are lined up ... but we still need to get more leaflets out! This is the 2nd Fest year. Help us get to a third by mucking in with a wee bit of leafleting in a patch near you. If you can spare some time, contact Alan Taylor at:  MusicalDirector@hernehillfestival.org

Burglaries in Village Ward - a message from the Safer Neighbourhood Team

Hi all,

unfortunately Village Ward appears to be being targeted by burglars at the minute. There have been several burglaries and several attempted burglaries in just the last few weeks and it appears to be more than one suspect/team out there committing them. Needless to say I have posted every single resource available to me to patrol the affected areas and some officers have had their shifts changed to be tasked appropriately at the problem.  The current theme of the burglaries that are occurring appear to be very low tech, in that the glass on front and rear doors is being smashed to gain entry. There were also three houses that have found tool marks where it looks as if someone has tried to prise open wooden sash windows, although thankfully access was not gained.

Choral Evensong as part of HHMF in newly restored St Paul's, Oct 12th

Earlier this year Cornische Builders completed substantial refurbishment of St Paul's Church on Herne Hill, the very church where John Ruskin worshipped. It was originally built in 1843 and then rebuilt in 1858 because of fire damage. The new interior of the church is splendid, very welcoming and shows more clearly its architectural detail. This year also sees the celebration of the centenary of its organ. These photos from Cornische show just how extensive the works have been. The Herne Hill Music Festival will be including a Choral Evensong as part of its 2014 programme, with a choir drawn from the Anglican parishes of South London, organised by the Director of Music at St Paul's, Cliodna Shanahan. You're invited to come along and be part of the congregation on Sunday Oct 12th, from 6:30-7:30pm when you can join in singing and marvel at the new interior! More information about this free event on the Festival website: http://bit.ly/ZPVVmJ. You can see more restoration works photos on Cornische's Facebook page at: http://on.fb.me/1nbHK5i.
