Herne Hill Music Festival is crowdfunding for its 2019 Ruskin bi-centenary musical!

In this bi-centenary year of Herne Hill resident John Ruskin, Herne Hill Music Festival hopes to include a musical based on Ruskin’s only play in its programme. Composer Paul Ayres plans to turn The King of the Golden River by Ruskin into a musical to be performed by St Saviour’s Primary School. However, we need to pay a fee to a professional composer like Paul, and there other costs of the production as well. We have had generous support from the Herne Hill Society and our other business sponsors, but we are still short of £350.

Thanks for your patience, Herne Hill!

It was fantastic to be able to finally put up the board with the list of donors for our replacement piano in the Square this week. Thanks for being so patient Herne Hill!

Much appreciation to all those who contributed to our much loved ‘new’ piano, it’s maintenance and use at events.

LiTTLe MACHiNe Library Fundraiser Tonite Feb 23

Last min info ... and somewhat off-patch but Lambeth is involved! When Croydon Council decided to hand Upper Norwood Library over to the community to run they offered funding of £75,000 a year from April 2013. This meant a drop of over £100,000 from Croydon’s current contribution of £187,000. Lambeth Council, who currently fund the library jointly with Croydon, have pledged annual funding of £170,000. The decision followed the council’s consultation with the local community which, as expected, showed overwhelming support for keeping Upper Norwood Library open, in its current position, and run as an independent body. So The Upper Norwood Library Trust and a campaign to save Upper Norwood as the UK's only independent fully indie library was born.

To assist in these efforts, stalwart performers LiTTLe MACHiNe are putting on a fundraiser 7.30 tonight at the library, 39 - 41 Westow Hill, SE19 1TJ. You might recall their knock-out show for the Herne Hill Music Festival in October. Great guys, great cause, great show. There should be tickets left for this terrific one-off library fundraiser but best check with the library first - 020 8670 2551.
