10 years since the Ruskin Park Bandstand re-opened

Its been 10 years since the Ruskin Park Bandstand was re-opened. The Friends of Ruskin Park with Kings College Hospital are celebrating this anniversary with an early evening concert. The Ruskin Park Concert Band, led by the larger than life John Holland, will provide the music and you can join in with the singalong parts.

Refreshments available from 5.30 and the music kicks off at 6pm. You could of course bring your own picnic.

Launch of brand new choir in the heart of Herne Hill

An exciting new choir, VOCALIZE: Herne Hill, will launch on Thursday 7 January 2016.

LWO Red Nose Day Concert 2015 with bakeoff judged by Love & Cake!

It doesn't get much better than this! On Thursday March 12th Lambeth Wind Orchestra puts on a special Red Nose Day 2015 concert at Herne Hill United Church, which of course means a fabulous programme of light classical music but also includes games, a raffle, a quiz ... plus a baking competition to be judged by Herne Hill Market's own Love & Cake! Free entry, but donations collected towards Comic Relief's Red Nose Day. LWO is a South London Concert Band based in Herne Hill and performs a varied programme of music for the community. LWO's conductor John Holland is a massive baker! Love & Cake is a Leiths-trained baker and maker of homemade cake and brownies, and is in Herne Hill Farmers’ Market every Sunday from 10am to 4pm. Lambeth Wind Orchestra's BESTIARIUM 5th February

Lambeth Wind Orchestra invites you to join them in Tulse Hill at Holy Trinity & St Matthias Church, Trinity Rise, in a one day workshop and concert featuring BESTIARIUM, a brand new nine-movement suite wind orchestra with beastly contributions from today’s top composers for band including:

• Philip Sparke (whale)
• Robert W. Smith (apes)
• Oscar Navarro (fly)
• Bert Appermont (tropical fishes)
• Ferrer Ferran (Tyrannosaurus Rex)

Players of woodwind, brass or percussion instruments (aged 16+ and of minimum Grade 6 standard) are welcome. We will work on BESTIARIUM and other pieces from 9.30am-2.30pm, finishing with a free, informal concert for family, friends and supporters from 3.00-4.15pm. The fee to attend is £8.00. Christmas Cambria Choir concerts - today, tomorrow, and Thursday

 

TODAY AT THE HERNE HILL MARKET  from 2pm, the Cambria Choir will be making good use of the piano, and the good folks from Poet's Corner will be handing out carol sheets for a singalong.

 

If you're not about for then, come to the Cambria tomorrow night, for our official Christmas gig. Free entry. It's always packed so you might want to bag a table a little earlier. 

 

And our final gig of the year will be on Thursday, 20th December at the Commercial pub, opposite Herne Hill Station. 

 

Then we'll be taking a well deserved rest until January!

The Cambria Choir's free "end of term" concert

 

The popular Cambria Choir are about to take their annual August holiday, so are singing in their home, the Cambria pub, one last time this Monday, 23rd July.

 

As ever, it's free of charge, in the lovely chandeliered surroundings of the Cambria, 40 Kemerton Road. That's just off Herne Hill Road, by St. Saviours school.

 

The choir are taking new members in September, so if you fancied meeting new people and singing some lovely arrangements ranging from the Spiritual to 70s rock, come along on Monday to see what we're about!

Cambria Choir Concert this Monday evening (Tomorrow!)

The Cambria choir now has over 40 members, and are singing their seasonal concert at the Cambria this Monday evening. It's free of charge and proves hugely popular.

 

Conducted and arranged by Sarah Fisher and Lucy Davies, the choir are sounding rather fantastic, in preparation for their entry at the Choir of the Year. If you want to eat whilst watching, book a table in advance by calling the Cambria. Expect a varied (and enthusiastic!) programme, from rousing ballads to uplifting pop anthems.
