'After the flood: how the waters brought Herne Hill together'

'After the flood: how the waters brought Herne Hill together' is an interesting Brixton Blog post from 3 weeks ago which describes the enormity of the flood in Herne Hill last August and the scope of damage. It features interviews with many affected traders, going behind the scenes to describe frustration with Thames Water and local government, but also depicts a galvanising, fighting spirit which has helped the area get back on its feet.

Cambria Choir Open Rehearsals, Monday September 9th and 16th

We're a friendly, mixed ability, gender and ages choir, singing a wide range of pop music. Rehearsals are on Mondays from 7.15 until 9pm, costing £5 per week. The Cambria pub is situated on the corner of Kemerton Road, Herne Hill/Camberwell, SE5. We rehearse upstairs.

We've been running for almost 3 years now, under the co-directorship of Sarah Fisher and Lucy Harrower (nee Davies).

From September 2013, Lucy will be on maternity leave. Sarah will take the first two rehearsals on September 9th and September 16th. Then every other week, you will be treated to different singing workshops from visiting choir directors, specialising in  a wide range of music. Sessions remain only £5. Every other week Sarah will direct, building our repertoire for the Christmas concert.

The Ingham 5 Live at Hooper's March 3rd - part of free Sinatra Tribute!

Less than a month ago, a lot of local people gathered at Southwark Council offices in Tooley Street for a music license review hearing. The hearing would decide the fate of Hooper's Bar (SE5 8DH) - a select number of neighbours had complained about noise from the pub on music nights and street drinking the rest of the time (it follows that if you smoke outside you drink out there too). Thankfully the music license was not revoked. A good thing too as the pub relies on event night trade to survive - but some adjustments were made to its timetable such as no drinking in Malfort Road after 9pm and no music after 11. Had the license been pulled we might be looking at nothing but flats on that corner in due course!

The Cambria Choir resumes Business as Usual

After a month off, the Cambria Choir resumes rehearsals on Monday at 7.15pm.

We practise in the Cambria, on Kemerton Road, SE5. A fee of £5 is payable each week.

We are a non-auditioning community choir, and currently have a few spaces. If you'd like to join, please don't turn up but email letting us know your voice type if you know it (high female, low female, high man, low man, or SATB).

We're a friendly, diverse lot, and get asked to do exciting things like local events and festivals, and we've been known to sing with Hazel O Connor more than once...
