Charity Fun Run in Brockwell Park Saturday 25th

Rathbone is a learning disability charity based in West Norwood. Recent cuts have made it increasingly difficult for the charity to keep their social groups going strong so the members have decided to take matters in their own hands to raise money to help out.

At 11am On Saturday May 25th members of our Youth Club and Over 25s Group, friends, family members and some Rathbone staff and volunteers are challenging themselves in a fun run around Brockwell Park to raise money for their particular groups.

The event is being opened by the Mayor of Lambeth, Councillor Mark Bennett, who will also stay to present medals to all the runners at the finish line near Brockwell Hall.

Brockwell Park hedge planting - last section to be completed

Dear All

You may not know that the new deluxe perimeter hedge that we are planting, is a volunteer triumph.  Fund-raised for by us, fought for by us and planted by us. This hedge is to help support birds, bees, butterflies and bats to thrive.

We are on the last stretch – from the top of the playground by Brailsford Road - all the way down to Water Lane.  The volunteer numbers have dropped a bit and we have fallen behind schedule.  If you have even a couple of hours on any Tuesday, Wednesday or Thursday in February – we would be able to get ahead and finish on time.  No previous experience is necessary.

Brockwell Park hedge planting continues in the New Year - Volunteer! 11am - 3pm

Planting of almost 800 metres of native hedgerow along the Cressingham ridge on the western side of Brockwell Park continues in 2013, with volunteer sessions taking place Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays throughout January and February. The one volunteering session remaining this week is on the 10th of January, 11am - 3pm!

This hedge will be the longest, newly planted hedgerow in Lambeth!

Funding from Biff Award and Veolia Environmental Trust has enabled Brockwell Park Community Partners with the Trust for Conservation Volunteers to make this happen.

Hawthorn, Cherry plum, Hornbeam, Field Maple, Spindle, Dog rose and more will provide food and nesting sites for birds whilst supporting bees, butterflies, small mammals, amphibians and insects plus an all year round colourful hedgerow for park visitors to enjoy.

If you would like to get involved in helping to prepare and plant this very special hedgerow then do join us. Contact: thoare@lambeth.gov.uk
