Brockwell Lido 80th Celebration Gala

On Saturday 8th July, the Brockwell Lido Swim Team and Parliament Hill Lido competed in a revival gala as part of the 80th Anniversary of their opening. Art Deco landmarks, Brockwell Lido and Parliament Hill Lidos opened within a year of each other in 1937 and 1938 respectively. Historically the two lidos had annual races pitching south London against north, up until the late 1960's. Brockwell Lido's 80th Celebration seemed like the perfect opportunity to renew this tradition.

Market Day for Brockwell Swimmers

Brockwell Swimmers were at Herne Hill's bustling Sunday Market setting out their stall for a Summer of Aquatic Fun at the Lido. There was lots of interest from passing visitors and plenty of positive feedback from the community supporting a local swimming club.

Events planned for 2017 include Water Polo, Swim/Walks, Club Races and Swim Socials at the Prince Regent. The club is run by the members, for the members, so more event ideas are always welcomed. Membership is free online at

Water Polo starts at Brockwell Lido

Evening Water Polo will be starting at Brockwell Lido on Monday 29th May. The sessions are organised by the pool's Brockwell Swimmers club and coached by the excellent Jim Boucher.

No experience of the game is neccessary and players ranges from the complete novices to experienced goal scorers. All abilities are welcome as long as you are a competent swimmer, can tread water and know how to have a laugh. Drinks afterwards at the Prince of Regent.

Brockwell Water Polo 2017

Brockwell Swimmers have announced the dates for Water Polo 2017. For the colder months they have six indoor sessions at the nearby Alleyn’s School indoor pool in Dulwich, and then eight outdoor sessions at the Lido when the weather, and the water, get a little warmer.

Gala Day at the Tooting Championships

A gala day was had by Brockwell Swimmers at the seventh Tooting Cold Water Swimming Championships 2017. Our first two teams came a disappointing second to last in the relays, but triumphed in our third race by coming sixth out of six. Result!

An amazing day full of fun and lots of cold water. Hats off to the South London Swimming Club and all their hard working volunteers for running such an amazing event. We look forward to their Invitation Gala happening in March.

Brockwell Swimmers go PHISHing

Brockwell Swimmers travalled up north to swim at the annual Parliament Hill Ice Swim Hootenanny (PHISH) on Saturday 21st January. Never wanting to be outdone by other London pools, such as our comparitively warm Brockwell, their water was cooled to a decidedly chilly 2°C! But with the sun shining, hot coffee and bacon butties on standby, and a very cosy 80°F sauna, nobody was complaining.

New Indoor Water Polo at Alleyn's School

Brockwell Swimmer’s Water Polo is back for an indoor winter event at Alleyn’s School pool in East Dulwich, just a stone’s throw from our normal home at the Lido. Thankfully the water will be a little warmer!

Like the Summer evenings, this will be open to all abilities with the emphasis on fun rather than competition. Everybody welcome. The one hour session will consist of drills, an introduction to the rules and a short recreational match. Maybe a beer afterwards to catch up and warm up.

Team Brockwell win medals in Poland

Brockwell Swimmers traveled to Poland to take part in the Fourth International Winter Swimming Championships. This year’s venue was the beautiful and historic port of Gdansk with the 25 metre course positioned at the marine in the centre of town.

1962 Footage of Brockwell Water Polo

Some wonderful 1962 footage of Water Polo being played at Brockwell Lido has just emerged on YouTube (fast forward to middle) Interestingly they seem be playing the length of the pool, rather than the width as Brockwell Swimmers do today. The pool was deeper in those days, with diving boards, so this might have made it possible to play without touching the bottom.

Be Bold in the Cold

The UK Cold Water Swimming Championships are back at Tooting Bec Lido on Saturday 28 January 2017. This fantastic annual event is organised by the South London Swimming Club and supported by Wandsworth Council and Places for People (the managing company).
