Tasters at Yoga PointShiatsu is a particularly effective way to feel more connected and navigate the challenges of life. I enjoy working with people to support their wellbeing and I bring fifteen years experience of working with people rather than ‘fixing’ them. If you are looking for: stress relief and relaxation; improved sleep and digestion; reducing anxiety and tension and addressing musculo-skeletal aches and pains then do get in touch.

It is a form of bodywork originating in Japan. It is both a form of physical therapy and a means of greater integration of body, mind and spirit - a holistic therapy.

The principles of Shiatsu are rooted in the traditions of oriental medicine using similar energy channels and points as in acupuncture, involving non-invasive and intuitive touch combined with highly skilled stretching and mobilisation techniques. Generally, the practitioner works on the whole body to help energy flow freely through the whole system, to stimulate the body's own innate ability to rebalance and heal itself. During the treatment this is usually experienced as a sense of deep relaxation.

At the end of the session will be a short period of rest, in order for the work of the session to be fully assimilated. You may be given a recommendation or shown an exercise to continue at home, supporting the process to restore and maintain health.

Karen practices a combination of movement shiatsu and Zen shiatsu. To find out more, do have look at and also the Shiatsu Society at

A session lasts one hour and is given with the person fully clothed. It takes place in a calm and comfortable room, on a futon on the floor or on a couch. Following an initial assessment of your health condition, treatment aims will be agreed, so that each session is unique and tailored to individual needs.

Karen treats stiff neck, head and shoulders.

Karen is particularly interested in hearing from local professionals in the Brixton and Herne Hill area perhaps working from home who can come for sessions during daytime hours.

Homeworkers invariably tend not to have ergonomically planned workstations but can instead be found putting in long hours hunched over a laptop on the sofa- and don’t even get their 20 minutes of daily exercise by walking to the tube!
