WITH SOMERSETHOUSE - WRITERS’ TALKS AT THE COURTAULD GALLERY
Somerset House Writer in Residence Frances Wilson hosts Picture This, now in its third year. Six eminent writers discuss their favourite work of art on display in The Courtauld Gallery’s permanent collection.
4 October 2011 – Tracy Chevalier & Iain Sinclair
Describing an artwork that excites, engages or provokes them, writers include Girl With a Pearl Earring author Tracy Chevalier and Geoff Dyer, author of Jeff in Venice, Death in Varanasi, winner of the 2009 Bollinger Everyman Wodehouse Prize for Best Comic Novel.
Each evening the writers present their personal reflections in a 20-minute talk, inspired by a painting from the remarkable collection of world-famous Impressionist and Post-Impressionist masterpieces at The Courtauld Gallery.
Talks will be followed by a Q&A session and a chance to meet the writers. Prior to the talk audience members are invited to a private view of The Courtauld’s permanent collection, which ranges from early Renaissance to the 21st Century art.
Tickets will include a pre or post talk drink at Tom’s Kitchen bar.
