Water Polo arrives at Brockwell with a Splash.
Brockwell Lido’s first Water Polo evening held Tuesday 7th July proved to be a great success. The event attracted a wide variety of swimmers; some experience in the game, and others complete novices like myself.
After an initial explanation of the rules by Jim from Guildford Swimmers (who also supplied all the equipment free of charge) we were into the pool at a very comfortable temperature of 21·4°C. Chris Martin from Croydon Aquatics then took over the coaching and soon had us throwing, passing and dribbling the ball. We also learned the legendery 'egg-beater' method of treading water.
Then it was white and blue hats on and 'swim off' for our very first game of Water Polo. Chris must be a miracle worker, because even though most of us had only just met, we actually looked like we knew what we were doing. Half time and the score was three all. A two minute rest and we were off again. Three four... four all... five four... the whistle is blown and I cannot believe it... our team has won!
Big thanks to Jim and Chris, our magnificent coaches, and to the staff of Brockwell Lido.
And the good news is... we're doing it all again on Tuesday 21st July. Meet poolside at 8pm for some more Water Polo madness.
