Warning of attempted abductions issued by Lambeth Police

Lambeth Police are investigating an alleged attempted abduction of an eleven year old girl on Wednesday 28th September. The details are as follows:

The incident occurred just after 8.00am on Norwood Road near the junction with Avenue Park Road, SE27, while the girl was walking to school.

A white van is believed to have pulled up alongside the girl and a male occupant attempted to force her into the van. Fortunately she was able to run off. It is believed that there were two men in the van, one of them described as apprioximately five feet ten inches tall, wearing a balaclava and a dark coloured quilted jacket.

Police are working closely with the girls school and are also liaising with other local schools.

Patrols have been increased in the area and officers have been appealing for information from members of the public concerning the incident.

Anyone with information or who may have seen the white van with tinted front windows is asked to contact Lambeth CID on 02086493478.

If you have any information and wish to remain anonymous please contact CrimeStoppers on 0800555111.

(There are stories of 2 other similar incidents in Croydon and Brixton).

Thank you for posting.

I think there is an error with the date as Wednesday was the 1st October and the 28th was Sunday, which is an unlikely day for the girl to be walking to school.

I haven't noticed anything suspicious but I do walk that way around that time on some days so it would be useful to know the correct day and date.
