Railton Road Shops and the Arch Co: July 2019 update

Herne Hill Forum have received the following statement from the Arch Co regarding the occupied and unoccupied Railton Rd arch units.

Their statement is published in full below:

"We have been having ongoing conversations with our tenant who operates a coffee shop in Herne Hill Station Passageway and are pleased to be able to let him continue beyond the last day of his current lease (7 July), in order to give him time to plan the future of his business. Mustapha will continue to serve his popular coffee and snacks during this period.

We are actively marketing the refurbished units on Railton Road  and are  progressing discussions with the interested parties. In the meantime, we are looking at a pop-up solution to help encourage footfall to this area and anyone interested should contact us direct.

Longer term, we are keen to ensure that we reach agreement with tenants who are a good fit for the area and can add value to the community. This means that we’re looking to attract the right mix of businesses that drive footfall and provide the services that the community needs. We have publicly stated on a number of occasions that we do not see these units as appropriate for national chains.

We have been engaging with stakeholders across the community and have had positive discussions with the Herne Hill Forum, Councillors and the Herne Hill Society, to better understand the needs of the local community and the challenges in attracting local traders.

We are working to offer flexible and attractive options to encourage small, local traders to consider moving into the properties and we’ll continue to work with them.  Our lettings team are able to discuss available units and options, such as longer leases and support for the fit out of the units, with any interested parties.

Where rent reviews are due for existing tenants we will be meeting them individually to discuss their case and aim to reach agreements that meet each tenant’s needs.

We will continue to work with local groups and others to support the Herne Hill community."

As soon as Herne Hill Forum know any more about the future of any of the units, you'll hear about it here.
