Railway Improvement Works - Half Moon Lane Bridge, Herne Hill - UPDATE

I am writing to update on the works that have now started on Half Moon Lane Bridge at the junction of Norwood Road and Half Moon Lane. We previously sent out a letter informing nearby residents of the works that were soon to commence. However, we have heard that some residents unfortunately did not receive the letter and we would like to apologise to anyone affected by this and update you on the project and our progress.

Phase 1 has commenced with the birdcage scaffold being installed under the north end of the bridge and we have now reached the part of the programme where we will be high pressure water jetting the bridge. We are located on site in our compound from 7am to 5pm Monday to Friday if anyone wishes to come and see us for any further information or has any concerns. We have also installed a notice board just outside the compound entrance with numbers you can call if you would like to speak to us at all.

We have and will continue to do all we can to keep both pedestrian and traffic flowing by maintaining a minimum of 2 carriageway lanes throughout the works and keeping pedestrian footpaths open and available for access. We have had to close one footpath crossing which has diversions in place as sign posted.

As with any work, our plans are subject to change, and the painting works can also be affected by inclement weather, though we will do everything we can to keep to our planned schedule and minimise any disruption caused. You can find more details on the reverse of this letter.

As a reminder, the refurbishment will involve the cleaning and repainting of the bridge, along with repairs to the brickwork and the steel structure which will be spread over three phases. To clean the bridge, we will be using water jetting, mostly between the hours of 08:00 and 17:00, though sometimes it will be necessary to work through the night as well. These works have been planned to coincide with existing line closures, during which trains will not be running. We realise that this work may cause some short-term inconvenience for you and other members of the community and we are sorry for this. We expect all our teams and contractors to work to a high standard, while also showing sensitivity and consideration for the community around them.

If you have any questions, or if you would like more information about the work we're doing, then please don't hesitate to getin touch by phone to 24-Hour National Helpline on 03457 114 141 quoting 'Half Moon Lane Bridge', or email CommunityRelationsSouthern@networkrail.co.uk.
