Dulwich Runners' summer training including news of our Midsummers Relay and Children's Fun Fun
With the glorious weather hopefully here to stay, Dulwich Runners have moved into summer training mode! With longer days we have changed to our summer routes on a Wednesday night making the most of the lovely parks and trails around Dulwich, Herne Hill, Peckham Rye, Tooting Bec Common, Upper Sydenham and Crystal Palace. So if you fancy trying out a run from 4 to 10 miles at a variety of paces please come along on a Wednesday Night to the Club House at 83-85 Burbage Road, SE24 9HD at 7.15pm for 7.30pm (please see our website (http://www.dulwichrunners.org.uk/) including our selection of routes on Strava for more details). Every week there are always established members ready to run with new members so there is no danger of getting lost! (£1 per runner)
Our Tuesday night training has also moved to Dulwich College Running Track Sports Ground on College Road, SE21 7LE for the summer allowing runners of all abilities to focus on speed work on the grass and running track which will benefit track and field, parkrun times, longer race endurance or general fitness. No special shoes are required! We meet at 7.10pm for a warm up before starting around 7.20pm. Please see https://www.dulwichrunners.org.uk/tuesday/ or the events section of the Herne Hill Forum for more details. (£2 per runner)
Club members are looking forward to events such as the Assembly League (c. 3 mile races every month in London parks on a Thursday evening), Green Belt Relay, Open Track meetings including the Mile and 5000m, as well as personal races.
Many members have completed 10 km, half marathons, marathons and even longer(!) races and many are now looking forward to some short sharp races over the summer of just improving their time at Parkrun! At the last count 42 members had completed marathons this spring in London, Mancester, Brighton, Paris, Boston (USA), Barcelona and Vienna with ultra marathons in Ireland, Pembrokshire to add. Many club members achieved personal bests or age graded milestones following the excellent training and coaching over the winter. Some pictures from Paddock Wood Half Marathon and London Marathon are below - who would have thought that these were literally two weeks apart with the weather!
We recently celebrated with drinks and a shed load of wonderful pizzas from Rocca di Papa in Dulwich Village. Here's one of our social secretaries gleefully dishing them out while the other unloads the car!
Midsummers Relay and Children's Fun Run
We are also hosting our annual Midsummers 3x 1 Mile relay race (7.30pm start) and Childrens (U-14s) fun mile run (7pm start) on Wednesday 27th June at Dulwich Park. Why not get a group of friends, work colleagues or sports club members together and take part and / or cheer on your kids, grandchildren, nephews and nieces beforehand! Please see https://www.dulwichrunners.org.uk/midsummersrelays/ or the events section of the Herne Hill Forum for more details and how to enter.
