Cyclist sought re 'motiveless' serious assault

Police have issued an image of a man they wish to speak with in connection with a serious assault in south London.

A woman was walking near Costcutters in Norwood Road, Herne Hill, SE24, at around 22:50hrs on Wednesday 29 February.

The 34-year-old was walking home alone when a man cycling along the road suddenly cycled onto the pavement and came up behind her. He punched her repeatedly in the head, causing her to lose consciousness and causing head injuries.

She remains in a serious but stable condition at a south London hospital.

The suspect continued cycling along the pavement before punching a 46-year-old man, also walking on the pavement, and cycling off. That victim did not require hospital treatment.

Both attacks appear to have no motive.

The suspect is described as black, wearing a long dark coat and riding a mountain bike.

This incident is being investigated by Southwark police.
