Brockwell Lido 80th Celebration Gala
On Saturday 8th July, the Brockwell Lido Swim Team and Parliament Hill Lido competed in a revival gala as part of the 80th Anniversary of their opening. Art Deco landmarks, Brockwell Lido and Parliament Hill Lidos opened within a year of each other in 1937 and 1938 respectively. Historically the two lidos had annual races pitching south London against north, up until the late 1960's. Brockwell Lido's 80th Celebration seemed like the perfect opportunity to renew this tradition. The Brockwell Lido Swim Team was made up of individual lido swimmers, Brockwell Icicles, Streamline Swims and Windrush who all joined together to form a team.
On the day, both Brockwell and Parliament Hill Lido teams competed valiantly across a range of sprint distances in Front Crawl, Breaststroke and Butterfly, with swimmers aged from 18 - 62. Congratulations go to the Brockwell Lido Swim Team who won the 80th Celebration Cup. Keen to have a rematch, Parliament Hill Lido have invited the Brockwell Lido Swim Team to compete at their 80th Celebrations next year. Parliament Hill Lido team manager said "My team had a brilliant time and were full of praise for the race organisers (Streamline Swims) and Brockwell Lido".
