Last week - in the spirit of Christmas - 'The Flower Lady' (outside Herne Hill station) had a cattle pen in front of her shop containing one Sheep (Amy) and one goat (Holly). These young animals were supplied and attended by their carer and were there to raise money, by donation, for a cancer charity. Children and adults were able to bottle-feed the animals.
To make space for this charitable tableau two christmas trees were displayed against the tree situated outside Pullens restaurant (resting on the soil around the tree and not on the pavement).
Along came officers from Lambeth Council who proceeded to 'harass' both 'The Flower Lady' and the animal carer for two hours before issuing the Flower Lady with a fixed penalty fine for 'Contravention of a Shop Front License'!
How petty can you get? ( .....and a Merry Christmas to you too Lambeth!)
