'Suffragette City' Summer Solstice Night Walk - 23rd June
London Night Walks welcomes you to join in the summer solstice walk ‘Suffragette City’ on 23rd June from 11:45pm, southside of Tower Bridge. It will be led by award-winning artist Michelle Baharier, who is so incredibly passionate about encouraging people to explore the psychogeography of London at night through walking, sightseeing and storytelling that she pioneered the stigma-busting Largactyl Shuffle and Coolwalks.
Join Michelle and guest speakers in the footsteps of nightwalkers such as Charles Dickens and William Blake, but with a twist: her Suffragette City walk will engage you in the obscure stories and hidden legacies of women located in the streets of London’s Southwark, Lambeth and Westminster districts - from Roman witches and female gladiators, to the women who led the first #MeToo campaign and burnt London to the ground! This will also be a great opportunity to walk London at night and in good company!
Meet Sarurday 23rd June on the southside of Tower Bridge at 11.45 pm – at the junction between Tower Bridge Road and Queen Elizabeth Street SE1 outside Sainsbury’s - and look for people with torches and fluorescent wear. This walk is 3.2 miles and will end on the northside of Westminster Bridge. Please wear comfortable clothes and footwear. The walk will be at a pace suitable for wheelchair users, and children under 18 need to be accompanied by an adult. Michelle encourages you to wear something purple, white or green, and if you have a story to tell feel welcome to share (but please email it through to her in advance: firstname.lastname@example.org).
This walk is supported by NSUN, Hoarding UK and Colin at Strawberry Jazz. If you would like to be a volunteer Michelle would welcome your support in whatever way you can help. If you, or your organisation, would like to know more please contact: email@example.com
