With Field Day in Brockwell Park a week away, it’s a good time to look ahead to a few of the highlights of the weekend, outside of the more obvious attractions of the headline acts such as Erykah Badu, Gilles Peterson, and Four Tet.
With the support of the community, a 1,600+ petition and the joint intervention of the Green and Labour Councillors for Herne Hill, Network Rail has been persuaded to site its new electricity sub-station somewhere other than Elaine Partleton’s small flower shop in the heart of Station Square.
A petition has been initiated to help save Elaine Partleton’s florist shop, The Flower Lady. Despite its existence next to Herne Hill station for over 10 years, landlord Network Rail wants it to make way for an electricity sub-station to power the arches that it has refurbished at the “Station Square” end of Railton Road.
When people say that an area has a really strong community it is a tribute to the hard work by countless individuals and organisations. It happens organically, not through some formal design or agreement. Herne Hill has built up a really strong community over the years, great initiatives have created real change in the area.
