There has been a planning proposal submitted which, if granted, will affect one of our listed buildings.
Please have a look at the proposal to add dormer windows to the roof of the old fire station to create a flat. The fire station (which houses Sainsbury's local) has the address of 'Central Buildings' and is arguably one of the few large character buildings we have. Built in 1906 and operated as a fire station with a lookout stationed in the attic space, it is an important part of our history.
The development is not unsympathetic and has been revised after previous refusals, but there is no social housing element to it and allowing it could set a precedent for further alterations to the heritage sites in our neighbourhood. The application may be viewed and commented on by searching this reference in the Lambeth planning database: 17/02922/FUL
I believe it's important that all our views, for and against, are considered in this kind of proposal so please make your views known on the Lambeth site where they will be taken into account.
